Looking at buying a VX-6

I just found a NIB VX-6 2-12X42 Duplex. I will probably buy it. My question is, is it really worth it to spend an extra $100 to get the illuminated version? I've never had a scope with the red dot in it and I've gotten along just fine. For those of you who have one, why is it better?

For fighting and hunting, yes. Otherwise, no.
