Good AK47 optics?

Hi all,

Can anyone give me some pointers on finding a decent optic for an AK47? With the AK being more of a medium to close distance rifle, what would be easiest to utilize...and wont break the bank for me?

u have a choice of mounts..foward mounts, rear mounts, mouting on the sight leaf etc...

then u pic a optic..red dot? magnified scope etc...

try PRIMARY ARMS or Solar Tactical's site as a starter and google stuff to make the right decisions

If your AK has the standard side rail then you can get any of a number of scope mounts for said system, they will all be tall enough that you won't get cheek weld.
I would go with the Texas Weapon Systems Dog Leg rail. It is a new dustcover with integral rail and it sits lower for mounting than an side rail I've seen.

I'd get the backup peep sight they sell and then mount whatever level of red dot you can afford for short to medium ranges (up to 150M). For longer any standard scope with low mounting height rings will work up to the scopes ideal distance and you. The AK can shoot well farther out than most people's ranges go.

For short to medium range, if i were buying an AK today (and I just might since it's almost Christmas) i would put a Burris FastFire III

Unfortunately, my Polytech came without a scope mount anchor on the side of the receiver, so I went with the TWS rail system and an EOTech.
Looks bizarre but we've hit steel repeatably @ 300yrds with it. I really love the EOTech optic concept, top dog for this old dog, IMHO.

Aimpoint baby. But if you want to go lower in price you could get the Primary arms that was mentioned above. I'm highly considering getting myself one when they come available....

I ran an Aimpoint H1 on an Ultimak. Suited me well.

Sidemount from Amazon $15. Barska 3-9x by 40mm for $45 and man am I happy.

Everybody rips on Barska and sidemounts, but I can pull it off or on and in seconds and it keeps enough of zero at 100 yards that I never have to zero.

Remember - nobody expects you to shoot well with an AK but they are always surprised you if you shoot better than they do. I don't shoot long range - its my eyes not the gun.
