Scope on Remington 341

Just picked up (read: just jailed) a Remington 341 in amazing condition. It's a 75+ year old rifle and doesn't have any included scope mounts. My question is:

Can I add one? Is there a way to add a scope without any permanent modifications to the rifle itself?

Although Weaver offers a side mount (Size #2) or top mounts (#43 Front and #42 Rear), pretty much any option will require drilling and tapping the receiver and possible even modification of the bold for proper/safe operation.
