    Scope Ring Question

I have a POF .308 and it has a tall rail and I have a Vortex Viper 4x16x50 and I want to use the Burris XTR 6 screw rings. My question is I want the scope close to the rail and I'm not sure what to order the small or medium mounts?

You'll need the High rings with 1.35" centerline height to clear the 50mm objective of your scope. If your forend rail has the section on top forward of the scope without rails, you could probably go the next size lower (Medium) which has a 1.10" center height.

Pretty sure you'll need the "High" rings. I just finished mounting a Burris 3-15X50 on my 308 using a PEPR mount with 1.34" center height. Using that combo I get this clearance under the objective end:

The gap with cover installed is just under 1/8", so figure anything less than about 1.25" of center height with a scope running a 50mm objective is likely to run into issues with clearance up front.

You also need to be aware of cheekweld height and scope centerline for an AR is usually around 1.4 ish....

You cant go much lower or taller than that without running into cheekweld issues.

P.E.P.R. mount all the way. One-piece is better than two.

The POF rifles are a different animal as far as ring height though. Their monolithic top rail adds about 1/4" to the overall height of the receiver. Add to that being a 308 platform which has a higher rail surface than an AR-15 and you end up with a scenario where the best mounting solution is to get the endbell as close as possible to the rail surface without contact.

Yes I'm trying to get the bell close to the rail as I can. The guys at POF said they think the medium . Maybe I will just get the Burris PEPR mount and play it safe.

The 30mm PEPR has a centerline height of 1.64", which will definitely give you the clearance you need and then some. With your monolithic rail setup however, you really don't need that amount of elevation or the forward offset of the PEPR mount. I'd go with the 30mm "High" XTR rings with the 1.35" height.

Looking good. How's the cheek weld?

Not bad I would like to try a stock like a magpul PRS or POF makes one. I'm very new to guns so everything is a learning adventure.
