    Vortex Razor 5-20X50 gen. 1

Anyone pick one of these up on sale recently? I also ordered the lowest set of Vortex Matched rings concurrently. The scope is too far above the barrel for my tastes. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

It's on a Tikka Sporter .308 with a heavy barrel. The base is a 20MOA picatinny type(looks like the EGW one) but made for TikkaShooters.com

If you got low rings, and it's too high..... it's the design of the base.

Ken farrell angled bases tend to be a bit high too.

35mm tube using the Vortex Medium should be 0.95" rings. Can you confirm that?

That's puts you at 0.261" from the top of the base to the bottom of the ring...

If that is what you see, then its the same measurement as the Seekins Low and TPS Ultra Low rings... I don't think you are going to find a set of rings that will get you any lower.

Depending on how much lower, you may want to find a base which has a thinner profile.

Tikka Sporter .308 has an adjustable comb... I doubt you have any issues with comb height. Is this just an aesthetic thing you dislike?

Bought mine for my 308 build on that crazy good sale. Stuck it in a 35mm AD-RECON mount. On a flattop platform such as the AR15 or AR10, I feel it has a good height to it and gives a comfortable cheek weld. I did have concerns about it being too high before I bought the mount, but they were allayed as soon as I mounted it up and tried it out. There is probably about 1/4" to 3/8" of clearance from the top of the rail.

Sounds like you might be very picky about my setup though and would find it too tall.

Keep in mind that at the height I have it set, in order to zero it at 100 yards, I had to dial up into the 3rd rotation (out of 10 I think?), so that gives you less room to dial up if you're shooting at extreme distances (think 1000+). You would likely need a 20 MOA base to go out further, which will cause the cheek weld issues again....

Extreme...your math is good. I am just used to lower centerline height of the scope like my Vortex PST but of course, the body diameter is only 30mm on that compared to the giagantic 35mm on the Razor. I could go with a thinner base but this one has a stainless recoil lug on the bottom which I like. Thanks for all the feedback everyone but I guess I will have to leave well enough alone....

Would love to see a photo.

My guess would be that the base is too high as well... but I agree with you... I'd leave well enough alone.

You should see how high my scope is above the bore on my AI AT... it's just silly.

I noticed the same thing... its about as low as you can get regards to the rings on a 35mm tube. Any lower and it looks like you would loose a lot of meat in critical areas of the ring.

I was also used to having a 0.82" centerline for my 30mm scopes. It would look a little more proportional if you were running a 56mm objective with a 35mm tube.

Either way, you should be good to go... Nice rifle by the way, I've been thinking of getting the long barrel Tikka Sporter in .260. Post pictures with the optic if you can.

AR stuff is a different ballgame when it comes to centerline height. Almost every mount from the same company for a 1", 30mm, 34mm, and 35mm tube will all share the same or similar centerline height... usually somewhere in the ballpark of 1.5" depending on the manufacture.

Height over bore does affect your ballistic tables a little… but it’s a lot less than most people would think.

I like my .308 Sporter but if I were to get another, it would probably be the .260. I will try to post a photo later on or I will send it to you in a PM. Where are you in So Cal by the way? I am in San Diego.

That scope is a bit over sized for a 308 sporter. It just going to look funny no matter what.

Maybe if its going on a T3 Lite.

You must not be thinking of the right rifle...

The Sporter isn't that small of a rifle. Stock size has more in common with a Sako TRG or an AICS chassis...

I would like to see pic when mounted, need height reference for using same set up on a Browning X-bolt.

I always bed my bases with jb weld, and use car wax on the action so I dont glue it together. Never been an issue for me... but I dont play with the big boys like 338/50bmg/nitro express....
