Eotech 512 vs Aimpoint ML3 vs Trijicon Tripower?? Help Please

I'm looking for a red dot optic and I would love to hear from your guys' experience with any of those optics.

I will be using the 3x mag with the red dot too.

It's going to be for my OLL build. And I also plan on getting a ACOG compact later...any input on that with which model will be good too.

I have used both the EOtech and the Aimpoint.. I like the Aimpoint the best.. Go to a local shop and try them.

No shops around here has stuff like that. So i'm going by feedback.

Do you have the ML3 or the M3?

I have a 552 and an M2, I like the M2 better, because I can change the height by changing mounts. An EOTech only goes so low...

The other bonus is that the Aimpoint actually turns off. The EOTech seems to go into standby mode, and will eat batteries, even when it's "off". Aimpoint's brightness adjustment is way easier, to use, too.

On the flip side, that 1MOA dot in the EOTech makes it easy to put some really accurate shots out there. I'm not sure what size dot the ML3 uses, but the M2 has a 4MOA dot, which is definitely meant for "good enough" shooting at people instead of somewhat more precise stuff.

Having owned several Eotech's, a half-dozen Aimpoint and having used the Tripower a few time I say:

          Aimpoint T-1 for the WIN!

One can compare MOA this and holo that, but when it comes to shooting hard, shooting fast, shooting accurately and having something that will survive a nuclear blast the T1 rules them all.

As far as ACOG's, if weight is not a factor than nothing is as good as a TA-11 with the infamous donut of death reticle. The conventional wisdom however is to go with a variant of the TA31 since it is lighter and is in used by the US military. The trade-off of a TA-31 is the somewhat limited eye-relief compare to a TA-11. But if you got the cash, get a TA-31 and an Aimpoint T1 and you are now CHUCK NORRIS.

I've used the Eotech, Aimpoint and the Tripower.

The Tripower is not good at all in my book I don't remember what I didn't like about it but it seemed sub standard. Of all the dots the Eotech was the easiest to use while shooting. As far as the battery and turn off part I only used it for a day. The Aimpoint was more difficult to get on target as quickly as the Eotech.

My baseline for rating optics is how well will they work in the 3 gun matches I go to. None of these work very well. Good quality but no magnafication.

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

If you are going into battle or want the toughest scope around then yes the ACOG series is all that and a bag of nuts. And the TA11 is the top of the heap.

That being said I'm into 3 gun and the ACOG which once ruled the land is taking a seat in the back of the bus.

Now you can get a veriable for much less money and it lends itself to 3 gun better than an ACOG.

Hoser stages are harder with an ACOG stuck on 3 or 4 power than a veriable on 1-1.5. Long range stages 300 to 400 yards the veriable may go to 5 power. The low power veriable just works better and costs less. It's not as tuff as an ACOG but I'm not betting my life on it, just a 12" target at 400 yards.

I would recommend the 557 w/ the EoTech 3x or the Aimpoint ML3 w/ the Eotech 3x. I like the EoTech magnifier. For the ACOG I would recommend the TA33R8 this is a great little sight.

I tried T-1 and love it. But for more all around I use Eotech 555 (originally bought 557, but went for repair and came back 555) plus Eotech 4x.

I'm going to get the ML3 with the larue cantilever mount.

also...i dont know if i should pass the price on a eotech 512 for $360?

I would pass on the $360 512, because I have $299 511 for sale and they are identical except 511 is the smallest and lightest of all Eotech and uses N-cells. Mine's been mounted but never fired or even out of the house yet.
