    Scope rings

Just picked up a scope that is a 3-9 x 40mm the tube diameter is 1". so I need to know what height to go on a flat top ar 15.
Today, we have done what we had to do. They counted on America to be passive... they counted wrong.

Burris PEPR has a 1" version, they also have a 30mm (which I have on my AR with a Mueller Speedshot 1-4x) so make sure you select the right one.

Nice thing is, there's a $20 rebate available right now, you can download the rebate form from Burris direct.

Go with a purpose built AR mount like the P.E.P.R.

Scope mounting height on an AR is virtually standardized, and rings aren't the solution. You don't want rings attached to a railed handguard (the handguard can twist, which will ruin your zero), and you'll probably want to push the scope farther forward (for eye relief) than rings on the upper receiver alone will allow for.

Cantilever mounts are thus the best solution for attaching glass to an AR in most situations. There's a good (if aging) comparison of such mounts here.

Wow, that thing is really overpriced -- and overengineered too, from the looks of it. I can't imagine an AR scope mount that needs to be more expensive than a LaRue, ADM or Bobro model (if there'a a good reason for the price of the Spuhr model, someone please enlighten me). At the same time, I wouldn't go cheaper than the Burris PEPR mentioned above.

ETA: Accessory mounts? A built-in level? I would just keep moving along, especially for that price. Besides, that product page doesn't include a 1"-diameter model.

1" is 25.4mm. For clearance your height needs to be at least 1/2 obj - 1/2 tube + spare room as a buffer for lens caps, etc.

So you'd need 20mm - 12.7mm + extra room = 7.3mm + extra room, so I'd go at least 10mm in height (or about 0.4") as the minimum. Most of the standard AR mounts provide for additional room, which is fine.

Burris P.E.P.R. or Leupold IMS. Quality, one-piece, precision mounts designed specially for scoping the the AR pattern. No-brainers...

If you're willing to sacrifice quality & reliability for savings, UTG makes a similar mount (Integral Offset QD) for a third of the price of those noted above. But UTG gear is 'air soft duty' in my opinion and not something I recommend for real weapons.
