    EOTech thoughts?

    Good evening all.

I recently purchased a LWRC IC SPR and am looking to put an EoTech on it. The only factor is that I'd love to meet someone with one to try it out first. I've shot with an ACOG for 8 years and for my purposes I don't feel that target acquisition is fast enough with one.

Rifle gets out of jail in 8 days, if anybody is intererested in shooting that weekend and has an EOTech I can try that would be awesome. Located in north SD county, stationed at pendleton.

    Thanks for the read!

I have an Eotech 512 on my AR and really like it. I like the 65 moa circle. I went with the 512 due to the commonality of AA batteries. I'm in San Diego if you're nearby and would like to try it out.

Had an EOTech 512 on one of my ARs for a couple years. Sold it for an Aimpoint T-1 and haven't looked back. EOTech is heavy and the reticle is too busy IMO. Others really like them. I've been far happier with the T-1.

I have an eo tech exps3-0 on my mk 18 and an aimpoint micro on my DD v7 lw.

I like both. My mk18 gets more trigger time now but I would buy either again.

Give us a look on your next eo tech or aimpoint purchase. We stock the full liken if each and have some pretty good pricing.

If you have any questions about the differences between models don't hesitate to give us a call, it's what we're here for.

LOL. It's only busy when there's a bunch zombies clustered together. I've got two 512s and love them. I think the reticle is pretty darnn useful and have shot out to 300yrds with it at Angeles...PING

for what it's worth, here's my review of the Eotech 512:

i've had one for about a year as my primary sight on my AR15 and i think its GREAT!

for close-range hosing, there is no better option than a brightly lit red dot. the circle reticle actually helps you center it on target for up close engagements (3-gun hosing stages, etc..)

but for long range, it gets VERY difficult to see the target/red dot for targets over 200yds.

i am currently experimenting with a 3x or a 6x magnifier behind the eotech. i notice that without the magnification, my performance is struggling in 3-gun matches that have 5moa targets over 100yds.

I have used a 512 eotech before and it's not bad. The circle is just a bit too much for me especially if I take it out past 100. Up close it's nice which it is mainly what it is for. I threw an aimpoint pro on and I won't be looking back. I prefer the 2 MOA dot it's easier for me to work with personally and I feel I can be more accurate with it.

I have been using a 552 for 3 years and can't really complain. I shoot twice a month with it and I am still on the original batteries, but it's no Aimpoint. It does get difficult to hit at 100+ yards without magnification, but it's really for closer engagements I guess. If you have astigmatism, like I do, the reticle is fuzzy without corrective lens. My only real complaint is that it's rather large and heavy compared with more modern sights. I bought this model because it runs on AA batteries, easy a no cheap to find.

I like the EoTechs best for "two eyes open" shooting as I was too old a dog to learn to stop squinting when I first tried a Trijicon and then Aimpoint.

Nothing against those two and they are reported to be bulletproof, but for me it's EoTechs and a flip-to-side magnifier.

I'm a fan of the Eotech, for me the 65moa circle is faster to use than a single dot. I like using the large circle to encircle the target and use the dot make the final shot.

I lose the single red dots and feel I have to slow down.

I had a 517. I do like Aimpoints battery life though, that is one awesome feature.

Eotech for me. Aimpoint is a red dot. A red dot is a red dot.....the only differences are battery life and ruggedness, which Aimpoint really does take the cake on.

I've always said that the Eotechs are great for engagements from 0-200 yards. I've hit a 6" swinger from 200 with boring regularity.....if I can do it, just about anyone can. They're also perfect for situations when you know you're going to be engaging ahead of time, such as SWAT operations. In this case, you can easily turn it on before engagement.

However, if you're a policeman or patrolman where engagements can come at any place and anytime, Aimpoint is the way to go. You dont want to be worried about switching on your optic in the heat of a battle. Aimpoint will always be on and will last for 3-5 years without changing the battery. The Eotech will auto shut off after 4 hours or so and the battery is measured in days/months, therefore not conducive to this type of fighting or shooting.

In the end, if your rifle is a range queen or used for classes, go with the Eotech. Better and more useful reticle, gets much brighter, don't have to worry about battery life or leaving it on for months at a time. But if it's for duty use where you don't want to worry about battery changing or turning on your optic when unexpectedly being engaged, get the Aimpoint.

Note about astigmatism: If you have it, I don't believe either red dot or holographic is going to work for you. You would be much better served using a 1-6x24 type optic.

No astigmatism here. I was considering a nightforce 1-4 with a 45 degree canted micro red dot (trijicon rmr) but I'm really looking for 100 yards and in and adding the 3x magnifier for anything further. I like the versatility of the Eotech with the magnification vs a traditional scope. I'll be back from our current exercise on October 4th and hoping to hit a range that Sunday. If anybody is interested a PM would be great

I used to have a magnifier in an FTS mount behind a Eo 512. In my opinion, it added nothing weight. It didn't allow me to hit any further out, it was bulky and weighed a lot more. I think you should either choose a 1-6x or go with a solo Eotech. For 100 yards and in, definitely go with the Eotech. Fast reticle, much lighter than a scope, less money and much smaller footprint.

I also had the trij RMR on top of a TA31F and it let me hit out to 200 yards no problem, but I didn't like how it put a large black border around the ocular lens of my scope. I did like it being straight up on top though.....not sure how I feel about the 45 degree cant mounts. Some love 'em, some hate 'em.

If going with a 1-4x/1-6x, I don't think you need an RMR because at 1x, it is essentially just like a red dot type optic, so long as the reticle is daylight practical/usable (not daylight "visible").

I have **** with an ACOG for years now over 3 tours and have no desire to own one on my personal rifle. They are good optics without a doubt just not what I'm looking for in one right now.

I'm very open to thoughts and would love to try out as many different optics as possible before I commit to anything
