    Lucid HD7 Battery Issue

Hey all I just thought I owed you this report since I recommended this sight to many people on this forum and others. Today I went to activate my Lucid HD7 on my Scar 17. The battery was dead so I opened up the compartment to switch out the battery. To my surprise I found the battery had swelled and leaked in the compartment. The battery was so wedged in that I had to force a deck screw into the battery to pull it out. It left quite a mess inside that took over an hour to clean.

I decided to look this issue up online and it turns out several people have had the same problem. Some thought it was due to the use of cheap batteries or extensive heat. Not mine, I used Duracell and it was stored in a temperature controlled environment that doesn't get colder than 68 nor warmer than 76. As much as I love this sight, reliability is paramount. I know Lucid has a great reputation and I hope they address the issue soon. I have several other sights, both cheaper and more expensive and have never had this problem with anything else. That being said, I would buy the sight again, but it would never find itself on a home defense weapon until this issue is resolved.

Just thought you all should know.

Unfortunate incident but not uncommon. I always have this issue with AA alkaline batteries in my flashlights. I now use rechargeable NiMH batteries which minimize battery leakage/swelling in my critical equipment when I can.

How do you like that sight. I'm thinking of getting one for my scar 16

Honestly, I like it. I like that it takes AAA batteries. The only negatives I find with it are the weight and this battery issue. Do you see yourself using the different target options or would you stick to the dot? If you would leave it on the dot, you may want to look at the Vortex Sparc. I have 4 of them. Very durable, lightweight and accurate. The add-on magnifier for the HD7 is better than the Sparc's.

In that case I would say go with the HD7, just know you may encounter the battery issue I described. Keep that in mind if this is going on your HD weapon.

I had a battery issue with my HD7 as well, except it didn't leak but it would deplete the life like nobody's business. The thing wouldn't be turned on and new batteries would be dead in matter of days. I contacted Jason and he advised me to try a variety of batteries, which I did. I experimented with all types: Duracell, Energizer, Rayovac, Costco and all and the same effect. Two weeks later, I got in touch with Jason and gave him the results. He then gladly asked me to ship the optic back to him for inspection. After about a week I called him back he admitted that the optic was defective and that a new replacement optic will be shipped back asap. A week later, I received a new optic and it has been flawless. All in all, I was very pleased with the customer service. It wasn't lightning fast, but they took care of me. Try giving Jason a call, I'm sure he'll take care of you as well.

I have a Gen 3 and previously had the older ones. With all due respect to the OP's battery issue, for me they have been great. A perfect midgrade optic between a Strikefire and an Eotech.
