PSL scope (LPS 4x6 TIP2) fitting issue

I need some advice on fitting the LPS scope on my PSL rail.

I got the rail filed down just enough so scope can slide all the way forward, and with the clamp down lever, scope stays in place. Problem is that there is a little bit of play front and back. After some investigation, I measured the locking piece around 7/16" while the opening for the piece is around 1/2". This seems to be the reason why I get this forward/backward play.

I didn't file down this area (except for clearning out the rust off the locking piece), so my question is. Is this play normal? Is there any way to fix it?

    Appreciate any input.

Play isn't normal. You can adjust the locking nut.

I've tried tightening the locking nut. Even when I push the piece up many turns to the point where scope won't slide out (blocked by the locking rail), the same play exisst.

I read some instruction that I should push the scope in all the way (to where the rail tapers up) past the opening for the locking rail. This will certainly make it tight, but I'm not sure it's the intended design?

Scope should be pushed all the way forward towards the muzzle. It's not designed to be placed anywhere else on the rail. During recoil, the rifle moves backwards while the scope tries to remain where it was (physics 101), that's why it needs to be set flush against the endstop to prevent movement.

Ah... that makes sense. The locking rail seems like it should go into the opening but asking the little piece of metal to stop the impact may just be too much.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll give that a try and see how it goes.

After some mallet action, I was able to get the scope flush against the end of the rail and clamp it down tight (without additional filing to boot). Excited about bringing it to the range and zeroing the scope.

              Thanks for the help calgun!
