    Countefeit EOTech 550 vs Real

We received a return from a customer that was a counterfeit EOTech 550. This is a quick video showing how to tell the difference.

Did you sell them a counterfeit one unknowingly and they are returning it or where they trying pull a fast one?

Does the counterfeit work just as good?

How much for a known counterfeit?

the box is original someone just threw in an airsoft version to rip you off

i guess you should make sure the serial number of the item is on the invoice

the person sending this in should be charged with fraud

I saw an EOTech sold at a fun show brand new for less than 100 bucks. I picked it up, turned it on and off and a dot appeared and disappeared just like on a real unit but since I never had one myself couldn't tell the difference beyond that if there was any. I mean it most likely will sucks somewhere/somehow after being used extensively but.. nevertheless looked and felt just like a real version.

So, anybody knows where and how it sucks exactly?

No, we only get our stuff directly from EOTech or an authorized distributor. Bib box stores are particularly vulnerable because the returns folks there generally don't have product knowledge. They get taken for a lot of money this way, and it certainly is theft.
No, they are in no way comparable in quality to the genuine unit. Not saying they won't work for a .22, but they're to be trusted as much as any other cheap copy. EOTechs are pretty much bullet-proof.

The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"

Good for O.P. in discovering the scam. I hope you filed a fraud report. I can't stand fake / clone anything, but the stuff has a demographic that likes it. I can't imagine anyone would take an all-American rifle such as an AR and put airsoft quality clone made in Taiwan crap "optics" on it. It takes the scum of the earth to try to steal a real Eotech such as in this manner.

But then again, a lot of people buy guns and never actually shoot them, preferring to just impress girls with them, bring out at gatherings, talk / review / blog / debate about them and post photos of themselves in tactical hats with tactical beards showing their fiercest war face.

If you want some free entertainment, check out all the F-150 driving, Carhartt wearing, big belt buckled, dip can pocketed, "buy American" types at the gun shows who flock to the IJK optics table and browse all the other craptacular Chinese clone accessories for their frankenbuilt "SHTF AR-FIFTEEN.."

It's not impossible that one of the folks working in returns is running a side hustle switching out real items with fakes?

I take it you haven't used a real eotech before that point in time?

The differences are obvious the second you look though it. A real eotech uses a laser and have a very distinct dot matrix like pattern to the reticle, the fakes are just an LED and the reticle looks nothing alike.

One fake one I tried is very dim in comparison, almost not daylight bright. A real eotech is substantially brighter.

Many Chinese knockoffs in just about any industry. Some are quite good.
I'll guarantee you if someone wanted to knockoff the Eotech and pay a good price to have that done, even a seasoned veteran would have a hard time telling the difference. The Chinese can and do produce quality if that is what the customer wants. If the customer wants crap, they'll produce it.
When I say customer, I mean who is paying for production. Like Apple and their quality devices.
Funny how the video doesn't address "other knockoffs". Do they think their is only one?

There are reasonably quality Chinese optics, but it's a pretty sure bet that a counterfeit won't be good.
