Budget scope with a nice FOV

If there's one thing that I like in my scopes, it's a large field of view. Is there anything in the sub $200 range with a relatively large FOV?
My favorite scope thus far was my Leupold VX1 3-9. The FOV on that scope is exactly what I am talking about (for those of you who own one, you know what I am talking about). I have since sold the Leupold, but will purchase another one if it is the only scope with that large a FOV.
I am hoping for something with a slightly higher magnification (4-16 for example).

The scope will be sitting atop an AR15 (.223)

    I am considering the following:

    Leupold VX1 3-9 ($175)
    Nikon P223 BDC 600 3-9 ($170)
    Vortex Crossfire II 4-12 ($150)
    Vortex Diamondback 4-12 ($185)

Should I just purchase another Leupold? How is the FOV on the P223's? I had the chance to look through another Nikon, not sure which though...but I was not impressed.

Another question; how do you all feel about air gun rated scopes on .223 rifles? I have an old Gamo scope; clarity is subpar compared to the Leupold (it's clear enough for me though) but the field of view is phenomenal for such an inexpensive scope.

      Why not a Weaver Classic K4? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/174...ProductFinding

I have used that scope extensively on my AR15 rifles with no complaint. Lots of field of view, forgiving eye relief, and extremely durable. Plus, it is priced well. Don't underestimate a good fixed power scope. Cheers! --1911ShooterPhil

I owned a Weaver for a few years. I do recall it being a very nice optic; very clear, eye relief was great, and the FOV was nice. I have since sold it. I do enjoy fixed scopes, but find myself alternating magnification frequently (high magnification for shooting steel at a distance, lower for close ranged targets and 3Gun).

Thanks Dimitri, I'll check out the video. How is the FOV on your guys' scopes, compared to say, a Leupold? I own a PA 1-4x24; while I am more than impressed with the clarity, I would like the scope much more if it had a wider field of view. That said, it has been sitting on my AR ever since I purchased it.

You seem to like the Leupolds, why not their sister company Redfield?
Redfield Revenge is in your budget and they're on sale at MidwayUSA with the Accu-range reticules.

Thanks Dimitri. I almost bit the bullet on the 1-6 when it was still available. Had it in my cart, and noticed that it was sold out seconds later. I opted for the 1-4 instead. Great scope, and I would go with the PA 1-6 but I am hoping for something with more zoom. The 4-16 looks tempting though.

Thanks ejhc11; I enjoy Leupolds because I used to own a few. I have sold them (too much scope and not enough range time to dedicate in order to justify the price).
I'll check out the Redfield. Would you mind giving me the down low regarding the Accu-ranger hunter and varmint? Which would you recommend for an AR build? Probably won't be shooting past 300 yards, if even 200.

Here is better info on the Redfield reticule. The Redfield would work well as I have a Burris Fullfield E1 3-9x40 on my AR with similar features. I would like the Accu-range varmint since it has one more tick to bracket smaller critters. The price can't be beat nor the warranty.

The 4-14x ACSS is out of stock.
When you go under product page to order it will give option to be notified when back in stock. Sign up there and be ready to order. We are getting an overwhelming demand for it as for other ACSS optics. The 1-6 should be here in a few days.

I forget the name for the German Ret with three heavy post and then three skinny lines.

Can you make that with the Hoseshoe of death in the middle?

                      Feel it would be awesome

The 4-14 is VERY nice glass for that budget. Let me put it to you this way: I now have an ACOG for sale...
