    Super Sniper 16x or 10x?

    Folks,

I have a Winchester Model 70 Stealth. I purchased, mounted, a SWFA Super Sniper scope with 16X magnification. I am a little disappointed, the scope has adjustable parallax, on the main ring. But because of the higher magnification mirage effect is bad. Interested in all opinions. A2

    Type of shooting I do.

    Folks,

I do mostly 100 yard target shooting, and 200-600 yard steel pounding. A2

Unless you're shooting ground squirrels at 1000, you should be fine with 10x.

Rex claims the 10x is good for targets to 1,000 yards.

How well do the Super Snipers compare to say a Leupold mark 4 or Nikon?

In other words would you put a SS on a 2300 dollar rifle?

I would put a SS HD on a 2300 rifle. It is a nice scope.

I've had an swfa fixed ten on my remington 700 in .308, great combo there, got out to about almost 1300 yards with it!!

I'm going to be putting an swfa fixed 16 power on a savage 338 lapua, I think the scope will be a little outmatched at that point. I'm expecting to be really pushing that scopes limits at 2000 yards, but I would love to go farther. Someday, I will probably have to go to a better scope when I can afford it.

What cartridge are you shooting? The recoil will matter in making a decision.

Generally, for 100 yards on paper, you want as much magnification as possible. You do not need to worry about mirage or spotting the hits as the paper will record the shot. For shooting targets at longer distances that aren't paper, you will want to reduce the magnification so that you have enough field of view to spot your hit with the recoil.

For larger targets, 10x is a good magnification for 1,000 yards as you may content with too much mirage at higher magnifications if you do not have good glass.

The SS HD 5-20x50 is better than a Leupold Mark 4.

I use a 10xSS for steel out to 550 meters. No problems at all with a 20" 308 bolt rifle.

If you can wait for it... best time to buy SWFA optics is when they have their sales. You can get a SS 5-20 HD for a lot less than that. At the sale price, I don't think it can be beat. Its a great scope with a lot of value, even at its regular price.

To the OP, I've been very pleased with the fixed 10x models, I use the HD and non-HD. I still think the non-HD fixed power optics they make are some of the best scopes you can buy for $300 or less.

10x42 is perfect. I have a 20x42 that is not as clear or bright as my 10x42's.

I did a lot of research and they have really good reviews and seem to be the way to go if you're trying to save money until you can afford a better optic. I was going to purchase one last week but as fate would have it, I was able to go with nightforce.

I would recommend the super sniper for sure. But for the distance you mention, 10x would be best. The mirage effect isn't something I've found a lot of info on during my research. But the guys i saw were saying that they were able to engage targets at 500, 600m with ease.
The only reason someone would do this would be if he spend all his money on the rifle and ammo. But, for only 500 or 600m, a Barska would probably suffice.
