Need a quick short answer for mounting a scope

I am sure this has been covered abundantly, but had a hell of a day with this issue and just need a short answer, if there is one. Bought a 44mm scope today. Entry level. 2 trips to Ammo Bros. Second time I brought my Upper (flat top AR15) just to ensure I am getting the right stuff. Still don't have mounts high enough to mount the scope. What is the correct height for ring/mount to properly mount this scope? Seeing that the sales staff hade everything they needed to assist me and still insisted on wasting my gas, I am returning the mounts tomorrow and learning to not deal with them anymore.

    /Rant.

Now I'm curious what mounts you got that don't work. Just about anything that from the top of the rail to the centerline of the scope should be tall enough for an AR should be able to support an objective bell on a scope with an OD of close to 60mm(not the same as just measuring the objective lens diameter, but that's pushing beyond a typical scope with a 50mm objective lens already anyway).

Scroll down and check the "Help - Mounting a scope to AR/M4..." thread, lots of suggestions that should work for you.

he got me the weaver 1" rings in a high... I guess they make x-high... and even xx-high (choices not given to me). got home the 2nd time. mounted, but still loose and the bell was resting on the top rail, still.

FYI... I bought a P-223 mount on Amazon. I read many reviews and it looks solid and fool proof with the height. Looks like it will mount to a 50mm... so I should be good.

Yeah, that should work just fine(I hope you got the right tube diameter though).

            Rings on an AR? WTF?

Sounds like the store was trying to sell you what they had in stock, rather than what you need.

1-piece mounts are the way to go on an AR.

I have these mounts, and added Burris Pos-align High or medium rings.

It's because you are using rings. Measure the height of the rings with calipers from where it'll sit on the picatinny rail to the bottom edge of the ring that contacts the scope. Add 0.5" (12.7mm) to that, which will get you approximately to the center axis of your scope. From there, subtract 22mm (half the distance). Hence, the height must be at least 10mm, but give it a few mm for margin of error and extra space. You'd want your rings to be about .55" or 14mm, and it should clear. So, you probably got low rings since most medium or high would do the trick.

Since you have a 1" scope, I'd recommend this basic AR mount as it is a 30mm mount but comes with inserts to 1" so you can run it with a 30mm or 1", and you shouldn't have clearance issues.

Burris PEPR or Leupold IMS - popular one-piece mounts that just work.
