Sizing caps for a redfield revolution

3-9x40mm. The company specs say 1.6" and 1.8". Do I buy 1.55" and 1.75" respectively? Looking at Butler Creek flip covers if that makes any difference.

    Thanks,
    mike

Don't waste your time, those stupid little plastic hinges love to break. About the only flip ups that are worth it would be something like the leupold alumina(doesn't have a crap hinge like the BC's). If you must waste your time with the flip ups, yes those should fit without being loose(which would be the problem if you go a size up).

I didn't believe the people claiming these things were crap either, got a set, seemed fine, till one day after not even having them that long, the objective lens cover hinge managed to somehow break while I was closing it.

Like this? If the Butler Creek are that bad I may just order two so when the Bulter fails on my other Redfield, I will be ready. :-D

Yeah, those leupold covers. But unfortunately, they're leupold specific. Tenebraex also apparently makes some decent flip ups... but they're model specific.

If BC would just fix their crap hinges, even if it meant charging double, they'd be worth it.

So these won't fit Redfield? I thought that the two were somehow related.

Doesn't mean the leupold caps are compatible. They thread into place rather than a slip over fit.

I have an email into Redfield, let's see if they get back to me. But it looks like my choices so far are a) buy a box of Butler Creek slip-ons to replace as they break or b) pay the $90 for the Leupolds and hope they work?

              Not really fond of either.

Go to Brownells and do a live chat. They can tell you in minutes versus days.

OpticsPlanet lists the covers as a package with your scope.

                Magnification: 3 x Reticle: 4-Plex Included Accessories: Butler Creek Black Eye Cover 39.9 - 40.8mm 21314, Butler Creek Multi-Flex Flip-Open Rifle Scope Objective Lens Cover Black 45.7 - 46.7mm 32527

Or get the bikini cover so it's a non-issue.

                    Not what you would think...

Hey Mike I just went through / am going through this same exact process and it is not the exact science you would think it to be. I had to call Butler Creek customer service who then refereed me to Bushnell technical support 1(800)423-3537 who were very helpful but could really only help me narrow it down to which sizes may fit my application since there are so many variances and some companies measure the inner threaded part around the lens meant for sun shades not the actual outside diameter.

Theoretically the idea / concept is you need to get the size cover just a tick bigger / larger in overall diameter than the eyepiece or objective or as close to it as you can get that you want to cover not smaller like you stated since they actually slide over the outside circumference of the scope tube ends.

For example my objective on my scope was listed as 57.6mm and my eyepiece 42mm which translates to 2.26" and 1.65". The size 43 Butler Creek 58.7mm objective cover which was 1.1mm larger in diameter was the only size they offer even close to my size objective. I figured I was going to have to put a spacer or o ring on it to make it fit but it fit perfectly right out of the box. I was going to get the size 16 / 42.2mm or 1.66" eyepiece since it says my eyepiece is 42mm or 1.65" but I think I might just go the next size up a size 17 or 42.5mm or 1.675" so there is a little margin for error they have a slight taper / bevel to them to compensate for a little variance but not much.

If you do a google search for the Butler Creek flip up covers sizing chart it shows the sizes in mm and inches you can measure your scope and see exactly which ones you will need if yours is 1.6" and 1.8" it looks like your eyepiece could be between a size 14-16 and your objective could be between a size 26-28 depending on your actual measurements / scope end sizes hope this helps give you a general idea of what your getting into good luck!
