Need help identifying rings and mount

Hey guys,

I would appreciate if someone could help me identify the rings and base.

Theses were on a Reminton 700pss I purchased. I was told that they might be some older leupold ultra rings and base. The ones they used on the M24 before they went to the mark 4.

I was going to use the the ring on a TPS 20moa rail I purchased, but noticed that the rings would not tighten up on the TPS base. These rings only fit this rail, see the pics I added with the measurements..

If infact these are older M24 rings and base I would love to sell them to someone building a period correct M24.

The information provided by the previous owner is partially correct. The rings are Leupold Medium Ultra Steel(cast) rings - original model number should be 40638. The base is a Leupold MK4. However, it is not the piece base used on the M24 (pre 2001).

Hold up a bit.....don't use those rings, you'll destroy a scope.

It's now obvious looking that you have a base of the scope ring that is for a 30mm scope and the upper part of the ring for a 1" scope.

Look close and notice the difference in inner diameters.

They are certainly mismatched.

Note the areas circled....brand new Mark4 only taken out of package to take this pic.

Do you have any info on the fitting issue.
The base is wider than any other weaver or picatinny base I have. I even tried the rings on all the bases that I have and all were loose fitting.

The rings and base just seem to be made for each other....haha

All is good. My rings are 30mm with the correct cap for 30mm. Go take a look at a set of badger rings.Thanks for noticing, most would not catch that.

subarubie - The base is within spec @ ~0.84". I'm not sure about your other bases. You may want to contact Mike Lau at TBA (Texas Brigade Armory) on the subject and try to obtain the original base. It will be worth while to complete the set rather than selling the rings separately. I can't say for certain if he still has them in his bin. Good luck.

No thats not correct.. here they are on my rifle mounted to a Bausch & Lomb 10x 62-1040 30mm tube scope. .. had to plug the awsome scope!!

Thanks Ethon1... do you happen to have a set of the rings? If so the problem is really not the mount but the rings. Thats why I had put a measurment of the rings closed....They just didn't tighten up on a TPS base spec ~.8385" I guess I'll just keep them as a set as the fit is perfect.

subarubie - Congrats! I'm glad to hear you like the setup. I'll send you a pm with more details when I get the chance. I'm curious about the measurement and the issues you're experiencing as well.

Thorax - I should have been explained this more clearly. I thought subarubie's posts were enough. Some scope rings are not slit at the centerline to the bore of the scope. Hence, there is a visual discrepancy between the arc segments and surface area. The ring gap exacerbates this anomaly as our brain attempts to autocorrect. As subarubie suggested, check out some of the rings by Badger Ordnance.
