    Best reticle for mid-range shooting

Just wondering what reticle you folks use for mid-range (100 to 500 yards)shooting? I am thinking of picking up a Savage in .308 to use for mid-range bench shooting. As of right now the longest range I have locally is 200 yards but I do have a lead on some private land which would stretch me out to 400-500 yards. Thanks for your recommendations

But seriously though, do you have an actual idea of what you want out of a scope yet? You can pick a scope based on the reticle, but that doesn't mean it'll have the rest of the features you actually want.

If you are just bench shooting, you can use pretty much any reticle because you will be able to dial to the known distance of your target. If you want to get some practice that will allow you to shoot in other conditions, get either a mil-dot reticle with mil based turrets, or a MOA reticle with MOA turrets. With that, spend some time figuring out the ballistics and practice your shooting technique, and maybe even practice some range estimation.

The interwebs. And no, that one isn't a real reticle. It's a horus reticle flipped a couple of times and superimposed over the normal image.

What do you plan on shooting at 500 yards? 12" steel plates or 4" bullseyes? The power and clarity is more important to me than the retical.

              How much can you spend?

Has anyone come up with a reticle that utilizes an Euler diagram so that you can aim at two different targets simultaneously? That's what I want.

Trash a dual focal plane scope to shift one of the reticles?

The Voretx PST is a great package for the price. The scope has some great features that you may not appreciate now but as you grow as a shooter you will come to appreciate.
                          -decent glass quality
                          -ffp or SFP models
                          -zero stop
                          -illuminated reticle

                          Vortex PST Rifle Scopes

Another option that I am really enjoying the the new Burris XTRII.
-I find optically it is better than the PST in terms of clarity, color, resolution, and contrast
                          -ffp reticle
                          -illuminated reticle
                          -matching turret/reticle
-34mm main tube with lots of adjustment
                          -zero stop
-double turn turrets that are marked for both rotations
                          Burris extreme tactical II scopes
