Red dot on Century Arms 39??

    Hello,

New to AK pattern sticks. How would I mount a red dot like a t1 micro on this type of firearm?

Searched and found replace dust cover or top hand guard with rail I think.

Is one setup better than the other? And are there preferred brands or types that you may suggest?

    Thanks!

You almost always mount the rail from the side with an "L" shaped mount. Is the left side of your receiver tapped for a mount? You find pretty standard picatinny mounts with a receiver tapped with these screw holes. Just do an internet image search and you'll see. Personally, I oppose optics on AKs. It's like cussing in church, IMO.

You have several good options, use the side rail w/ an RS mount, Ultimak, or US Palm/ Midwest Industries, or TWS.

UltimAK makes a gas-tube/top handguard replacement that allows a T1 to co-witness with iron sights.
Midwest Industries makes "optic specific" handguard replacements that add bottom/side rails and a special milled top mount for whatever optic you want.

I have used the UltimAK rail -- it is exactly what I wanted, but I have a tendency to burn my hands on it. The solid aluminum doesn't offer much heat shielding. (I also burned my hands on the sling mount with the original wood handguards, so not a big deal).

Thanks Guys, Im going to check those out.

Does anyone know if the milled reciever on the 39 matters in selecting the brand or type of rail? I didnt see any holes on the side of reciever

The C39 doesn't have the side mounts that everyone's talking about. Unless you know a gunsmith willing to drill into a milled receiver to install that mount, you're pretty much limited to dustcover or gas block rails.
