    m1a scope

I just jailed a m1a today looking to put a scope on it. Springfield makes a scope mount and it's already drilled for it. Would like to keep the price under 800. Any suggestions?

The actual scope mounts for M1As can be problematic - there's more crap out there than actually decent ones. Do as much research on your mount as your optic in this case. This is assuming you're going with a receiver mounted magnified optic and not a forward rail mounted long-eye relief optic or RDS.

Springfield has a mount that bolts to the receiver. It's a factory mount. Was looking at vortex optics.

I bought a gen 4 springfield mount a week ago. It was on sale for 90$.
Here is a great website on many option for the mount.

As for the scope I was torn between the nikon m308 and the vortex viper hs. Both were similar in price but I liked the bdc on the vortex better. The bdc on the vortex was smaller and easier to see the target at longer distance

That doesn't mean it's the best option out there -- in fact, reviews of the Springfield mount vary wildly. Sadlak, Smith, ARMS and Bassett (and a few others) all offer great aftermarket choices.

Did my research for my scout squad and it always came down to using a "steel" made mount. Most if not all steel mounts for the M1A cost around 200+. I just went with a hi-lux scout scope and used the springfield stock rail that came with the scout squad rifle. I only spent around $150 for the scope. One of the best decision I ever made sticking with the scout options. My scout squad is very accurate, I love the scope, now just looking for a bi-pod for better stability and accuracy

The primary arms scopes are excellent for the price! The reticle is awesome! I have the 1-6x on my IWI Tavor Since you are looking for a scope on a standard m1a , then you dont have the scout forward rail, so yeah you kind of have to get a steel made mount. I would suggest primary arms 308 scope as well. Since you plan on spending 800 for a scope originally you can afford the mount and the primary arms scope for under 600. A high quality vortex would have been nice but your looking at 1k just for that , let alone the steel mount :/ thats some serious coin brah!

I went with a Pro Mag scope mount. It's worked well for me. Mount was around $100.

I'm using Warne quick release mounts now instead of what's shown.

                    Sorry for the big pics.

                      Nice setup!

Always was curious on these types of setups though, the ejected casings do not hit the scope?

On my scout I see I have some room to move my scope on the scout forward rail a little further back hovering a tad bit over the case ejection area, however I was always afraid of the ejected casings hitting the scope.

I really like the casm mount from m14.ca. It uses the rear sight instead of the side mount to give a more solid mount. Plus what ever mount and scope you choose make sure the get a cheek riser.

Here is my m1a loaded with the above mount and an ior 3-18 scope

ARMS is my favorite - high quality steel - sits very low.

I'm glad I came across this thread. This is an interesting mount, never heard of it before. Thanks for posting. How's it holding up so far? With all of the installed screws, does it hold zero very well? Lastly, how is the BUS on it? From what I can see, it's not adjustable, but rather a hole in the actual mount.

Held zero without issue, I have had better luck with it than any other mount I have tried.

I have an older model before they put the hole for a backup site. I don't really worry about having a backup sits on a range gun. If you are that worried you can get something on a 45 degree mount.

The thing you have to remember is any scope mount requires a check riser to use the scope, so you couldn't use the bus anyways without spending a bunch of time getting the check riser off to even see the sights.
