    Removing matte paint from optic?

A buddy of mine recently purchased a P223 (I believe that is the model). The previous owner neglected to mention that he painted the scope matte black. I personally feel that the scope looks quite nice, but he wants the paint removed. How should we go about doing this? Without causing discoloration to the actual scope.

I think everyone uses acetone (nail polish remover is a diluted form). It doesn't affect the anodizing at all.

You gotta be careful, matte paint acts differently than gloss, if it knows you can see it, it will be stuborn.

Just kidding, your thread title is kinda funny though. As if to differentiate that its matte like it will be somehow a different process...

I've used a product called Jasco, highly toxic but works amazing.

I'll try the acetone first, as it is readily available. If it doesn't work, jasco it is! I just realized that my title is a tad off, please excuse that haha

Haha, that would be an option, had the previous owner not painted over the magnification indents, logo, etc.
