Optics on a budget? (Sightmark)

So for lacy of a better description I'm poor, with that in mind I've been thinking of getting a sight mark QD and a 5x magnifier. My AR is a more for fun than HD I have a 1911 on my nightstand for that. I know not to expect EoT/AimPoint quality but are these budget optics worth it knowing I wouldn't be able to spend 500+ within the year.

You get what you pay for but vortex has been good to me and they come with 2x magnifiers if you are looking for on the cheap

A good rule of thumb is to spend the least amount on a rifle that is capable of shooting the precision you want and spending as much as you can afford on quality optics. putting a $1500 optic on a $500 rifle will get you a lot further than putting a $500 optic on a $1500 rifle. But, for some reason many people can't grasp this concept. That said, for fun and plinking, I've put some very inexpensive optics on different rifles.

Red dot/holo with a swing out magnifier, I have a p223 but am pretty sure I'm gonna throw it on a plinking gun I'm buying my kid for his 8th birthday. I don't really do any long range stuff or hunting but would still like to play in the 100 yard range with some magnification. I'd still have to scroung the 200'ish for the sight mark combo for a bit or wait til I get some good over time during busy season but it would take me months before I could swing an EoT if not a tax return thing.

Agreed, Primary Arms is a top notch outfit and regardless of where they had their products made they stand behind everything with a warranty. I have never heard of anyone being unsatisfied after everything was said and done.

I know that many will completely disagree, but here's my personal experience -UTG 3-9x32 Compact (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I have two of these. Used mostly with AK and SKS, as well as on AR15. May be I'm the only one so lucky, but after few thousand rounds both of the scopes are still OK.

There is an amazing new micro dot coming with 5.5 years bat life that is double water proof. My favorite red dot sample so far. Its similar to the holosun red dot we carry but to PA specs T1 base, bat on side and no visible projector. It will retail under $200 and its a steal!! Not on web yet and no exact eta we hope next month. MD-ADS is the model number. Here is a pic of my Tavor with it on and 3x PA magnifier. Hope this helps.

I currently own the bushnell trs 25, and vortex sparc ii. The vortex has tint free glass which is pretty clear, lifetime warranty, slightly awkward controls, and cost $100 more than the bushnell trs 25. They're both great options for a budget optic.

However, I have to agree that the proper way to do it is to spend more on the optic than the gun.
