Help Please, Is the Surefire G2X PRO meant to be mounted on a rifle/shotgun?

I bought a Surefire G2X PRO and a vltor mount. The light was too narrow and slipped out during shooting from my HD shotgun. My question is, do all Surefire lights have the ability to be mounted with the proper sized mount, or is my light meant for other purposes, like a backup light?

(I only see surefire scouts online being mounted, which was why it got me thinking I goofed up on this purchase)

With the proper mount most Surefire lights can be mounted. However the polymer lights don't always fit the mounts, as they are a bit thinner than the aluminum lights. You should be able to make a spacer out of an old inner tube to make the light fit more solidly in the mount.

I dont believe the G2x is polymer, doesnt feel that way but could be coated...not really entirely sure. In your opinion, would you think that a light and a ring mount, set onto a railed mossberg forend is LESS sturdy than the surefire integrated light forend?

According to Surefire, the body is Nitrolon (polymer) and the head is aluminum

You can give peace a chance...

Are you using a inline Scout mount? I have always found those don't allow you to tighten down on to the light very well cause your rail stops a lot of the pressure. Your light should fit most 1" tube mount... go with something like this:

The question you may want to ask is your light's LED board strong enough to withstand your shotgun. While most SF lights are over-built, SF would tell you some of their lights are not meant to be mounted on rifle/shotgun. Only way to tell is to ask SF if they have tested that model light-head for weapons.

My opinion... use it and find out, the LED head is cheap to replace on Amazon.

To tell you the truth...I dont have the money to spend on a $350 Surefire scout weapon light...and I know surefire is gonna tell me to buy a weapon light. As an aside, alot of people are making mounts now specifically for the 1 inch diameter surefire flashlights, in order to mount them to rifles. They seem to hold up well, but IDK about shotguns...Anyone have any experience?

Also, anyone know if streamlight tlr's are rated for shotguns? Those might be better since they are meant to be mounted to a firearm...

I might end up using this polymer body G2 for a backup light in a bug out bag

Pelican M6 LED works just fine on rifles, and much cheaper. Just one option. You can get a pressure switch end-cap for like $20. That and a section of bicycle inner-tube will mount the switch on a forward pistol grip if needed. Velcro strips don't work that well, though, since the glue isn't strong enough most of the time, so use inner tube.

If you don't have a forward PG, then you may have to play with how you switch on the light, or find an alternate way to secure the pressure switch.

A section of inner-tube on the body of the flashlight will probably work as a spacer, assuming you get the right diameter tube.

I decided to go with the vtac polymer mount. I figure since my g2x pro is polymer/nitrolon and the handguards are polymer, the mount should also be polymer...not sure if there's any sense to this. I'm gonna run the damn gun and see if the light holds up
