Opinion on scope for Savage Axis

Pretty simple, I have two boys 13, and 11. A couple months ago I purchased a Savage Youth Axis XP .243 package that included a low end Bushnell scope (no model#). While the gun has not yet been shot, I went ahead and purchased another Savage Axis .243 but in LH and standard size for my oldest who shoots left handed. Question is I have a Bushnell Banner 3-9X40 sitting around doing nothing. This scope should be more then adequate for this rifle......right? I think it's a major upgrade from the package scope his little brother has, but let me know if I am missing something. FYI - The plan is for them to use the rifles for target practice to become familar with them, then a hunting trip in the next year or so. They both took and passed the Hunter Safety a couple years ago, so I figure a few hunting trips is the least I can do as a dad. Thanks for your comments

I would start with a price range and then start searching for best hunting optic in that price range on the internet and YouTube. That's how I walked through the in's and out's of optics for an AR.

UPDATE: What if you got quick release mounts that hold zero? Not sure on hunting configurations, but it exists on the rail side. Also, have you checked Nutnfancy? They review a lot of scopes, and have set up Remington 700 and AR's for long distances. If you check, there is a Weaver scope they really like and it's not expensive.

Thats true, and I have done just that many times in the past. I have I am guessing 20+ rifles in a variety of calibers, on those rifles I have quite a few Redfields (The made in the USA ones), Vortex, Leupolds, a few Bushnell Elites, and maybe 3-4 other brands. For the most part my scopes run $150-450. I am guessing I am trying to talk myself out of another purchase since I have one that should be adequate for his use, in my hands. Shouldn't it? I have had luck with the Banners in the past on some throw around guns that ended up getting pretty beat up. The other thing I have no clue how the Axis rifles shoot. I know my Savage rimfires rock, but the triggers on these Axis rifles......well, they are a bit rough (they do NOT have the acutriggers).
