Which Mount to get ?!

So I am a pure newb at long range rifle! My wife bought me a brand new Browning X Bolt Stainless Stalker 30-06 as my wedding gift to me (yep she's a keeper !). My best man told her what to get me since I had said to him I wanted a 30-06 as my next gun since I didn't have a rifle yet.

Anyway, I purchased the optic on my own. I just got a Zeiss Conquest HD5 2-10x 42mm , and have NO CLUE on how to mount it or what mounts to buy ?? Someone said take it to turners , but I don't feel id trust them or their judgment in that matter.

Can someone please chime in and help me out on which mounts to buy and how to mount it ? I've done quite a bit of online searching and can't find a definite answer. I really do appreciate any and all of your help. Thank you in advance.

What do you want to use the rifle for?

If there is no base with the gun, just a receiver tapped with screw holes, the easiest thing to do is buy a one piece base mount that is tapped specifically for your gun, so you know it fits. From there, buy rings to attach to the base. The ring diameter should match your tube diameter, and a relatively low ring height will probably suffice. The process can be done yourself as it is pretty intuitive; however, some are more picky and will want to use a torque wrench and mounting tools to get it exactly straight with optimal tensions. If you are handy, just do it yourself. If you are really afraid of messing up or very picky, take it to a professional (not Turners).

Warne, TPS, EGW, Ken Farrel all make good bases/rings and these are the cheaper of the QUALITY brands.

Most likely, you will be using "low" rings with a 42mm obj.

You can use:
aluminum base AND rings....
Steel base AND alu rings...
Or Steel base AND steel rings.

Do not put steel rings on an Alu base.

Seekins also makes very good lapped scope rings. I use these on. SWFA scope. Very nice.

Thanks for the replies I havent checked the thread until today. I ended up purchasing the mounts made by browning for the rifle.

i found them on opticsplanet and got them for about $50 . Hopefully these work out okay, thanks for the replies.

To the first post, I plan on using this to hunt deer or whatever else I decide to shoot with it.
