Interchanging ACOG and Scope on SCAR 17

Please excuse my ignorance here as I , other than an Eotech on one of my AR's that I bought used already mounted on the rifle from fellow Calgunner, have only used irons up to this point- on all my AR's and my M1A Scout. But eye sight continues to get worse and bought a SCAR 17 (simply to have fun at the range and plink steel targets out to 500 yards or so)- I decided wanted to try something new and fun for range so bought a TA11 3.5x ACOG for it.

Bought the ACOG from Optics Planet and came w TA51 non QD mount. I have a ton of 7.62 milsurp for it but also got a great deal on 1,000 rds of FGMM 168gr a while ago. Just trying to think what would be most fun to keep my interest at the range, and maybe take it on my first hog hunt at some point without having to switch rifles.

I have a couple 3-12x type scopes in mind already in the $800-$1,000 range to slap on the SCAR when I want more precision. Since none of my friends are shooters I learn as I go along and as mentioned I'm complete newb when comes to optics as always been using irons up til now.

2 Questions-
1. How does QD mount work on both a new scope and ACOG? You just unhook it and the whole mount comes off and then can interchange w my ACOG and a scope when want and given fact I'd get a quality QD mount for both,wouldn't lose zero too much when changing?
2. Since ACOG came what seems like permanently attached to TA51 mount, is there a way for me to get it on a QD mount instead?

Another vote for Bobro Engineering. I have had 4 ACOG's and they all were mounted on the exact same Bobro mount that I purchased years ago.

Bobro manufactures the ACOG mount to Trijicon's specifications.

Heat up the screws on the bottom of the TA51 mount (hairdryer, not blowtorch), and use a wide-blade screwdriver that fits tightly. It will come off.

ADM mounts are cheaper than larue and bobro, and superior to the larue (more surface area in the clamp, less fiddly adjustments), in my opinion. The bobro is probably the best of the three. Also, I don't like to give my money to larue, as his reputation as a human being is less than stellar.

If you use larue or ADM, make sure that when you mount it to zero or re-mount it, after you place it on the rail, you push the optic/mount towards the muzzle before you flip the clamp(s) closed. This prevents the optic from shifting forward under recoil. If you don't do this, the small amount of play in the rail/mount tolerances can allow the mount to move from your zero. This is not necessary with the bobro, by all accounts.

With a quality QD system, you shouldn't be off by more than half an MOA from original zero. Any of the three above should meet that criteria.

I've used ADM mounts and they've been great with ACOG's. Re-mounting repeatable to at most 1 MOA. As for a scope, you can get a mount that is one piece with 2 rings, and the base has quick detach levers. I had an ADM for a Vortex PST 1-4x24 and it worked very well.

Either way, if you're going to be switching between scopes/sights all the time, definitely go with quick detach mounts. Push them forward against the rails when seating, and lock it down. The big three as already mentioned, Bobro, LaRue and ADM (American Defense Manufacturing) are all good to go. From what I've read, stay away from A.R.M.S. mounts even though they are expensive (I have no experience with them....just parroting what I've read) and many cheap clone alternatives will leave you heavily disappointed. However, based on your gear, you don't appear to be the type of person to skimp on a mount

Just got a new TA11 today, and the mount came right off. I had the soldering gun ready, but the screws actually came out really easy. It does not look like there is any Loctite on the screws. I was pleasantly surprised...

I use mostly Larue mounts but that's before I even knew about Bobro. Bobro will be getting my next QD mount order, their product looks great.

OP, couple good QD mounts are a must have if you plan to swap optics around. After I started investing in good mounting solutions I was able to get better utilization from optics I already own as its much easier to move them around.

I just make note of where each zero will index on a scope turret and its always been repeatable.
