    Primary Arms Ultimate Torture Test

I've been doing a lot of research lately and have narrowed down my choice to a couple of Primary Arms Red Dots. I think their more recent product offerings have gone to a new level of quality.

I came across this very recent review about some guy who did a torture test on a Primary Arms Red Dot sight. The review pretty much erased any hesitation I had about the durability of these sights.

He put it underwater overnight, froze it, hit it across his yard like a baseball and then put it on his .50 Beowulf to see if it would still work and hold zero.

He then shot it... with a shotgun... twice. http://www.tacticalsandwich.com/?p=78

interesting, after reading the reviews it seems to be a pretty solid and reliable red dot.

not bad for the price either.

I like mines. I agree with the reviewer that the mount were the shortfall. But it takes all T1/H1 mounts. And seeing that most mounts cost as much or more than the MD06 + mount combo I'm not going to complain.

Here I am,the reliability of the PA micros is well known. We don't claim to be Aimpoint,Eotech,Trijicon but for what we offer for the money PA products are unbeatable!

Now, a moment of silence for the poor PA micro...

              Which one you going with?

I just ordered the Gen3 AA Multi Reticle (10k battery life, with Multiple Reticles and 1/3 cowitness mount included):

This is not a comment about the PA Red Dot, but about the review itself.

The author claims to be a poor full-time student:

Being a full time college student, I know the pains of needing good gear, but not always having the funds for them. In most cases, I just save pennies until I have enough hard cash saved up to drop on a nice piece of gear.
Yet he has the disposable funds to buy a red dot optic and then destroy it? Granted, $100 isn't much these days, but it is still a decent chunk of money for a supposedly poor college student who has to save his pennies. Then as we read on, we see that this poor college student not only has a digital IR thermometer (with laser aiming and color LCD display!), but he's shooting .50 Beowulf which is at least an $800 upper with rounds costing $2 a pop.

                Something doesn't ring true.

Yes, I did notice he mentioned he's broke but has a lot of goodies.

Maybe he's lying about being broke. Or maybe he is up to his nostrils in debt. Who knows.

What's important is that he documented a process that's interesting with some very convincing pictures and videos, and I hope this thread stays on stuff that's relevant to that ... optics.

                  .

While my comments may appear to be off-topic for this thread, they are not. I am addressing the credibility of the person conducting the review. If he is not credible, then his review is also not credible. If he is lying about his situation, then what else is he lying about? And why?

Again, this has absolutely nothing to do with Primary Arms and their excellent optics (of which I own several). I'm just pointing out a problem that was raised in my mind as I read the review page.

Sorry man, but all that is a bunch of over analysis to me.

We can develop a seemingly plausible line of reasoning to support nearly any belief, but the video and pics are credible enough to me.

I'm not gonna sit here and ponder his financial situation, because frankly... I don't care. What I care about is optics.

                        Too many assumptions here.

First of all you assumptions about my financial status, are not a valid analysis. Just because I am "currently" a poor college student, does not mean I have always been a poor college student-this is your first assumption. The present does not dictate the past.

Secondly, just because there is a lot of money's worth of equipment used in the pictures and videos in my well documented review, does not mean I own all of that, or went out and bought it the day of the review. I borrowed a lot of the equipment.

JUST because someone is currently in a point in their life, where funds aren't as readily available, does not immediately assume the subjection of not having nice things, and walking around in peasant's clothes.

To clarify for you, I started back in college the beginning of this year. I work full-time as a Database Programmer/System Admin, and go to school full-time for my engineering degree. I am a "poor college student" because I pay for all of my schooling out of pocket, one class at a time.

Because of this, there is little leftover for my ever-expensive love for guns, so the purpose behind the test was to provide YOU-the end-user-with real life results, for an optic that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I know there are people out there who buy crappy products because-like me-they just can't afford the fan-boy Aimpoints and Eotechs. So that is why I ran this PA MD-06 through the toughest test ever delivered on the internet; so that people who don't have a ton of money to expend, can buy a product that is proven for 1/6 the cost of the fan-boy products. I have an Aimpoint; I love it....but I am simply not able to equip all of my firearms with one because of the cost.

As I have proven in my test, you can be 110% confident that the MD-06 will do anything an Aimpoint or Eotech can, aside from the battery life on the Aimpoints.

Just my 2 cents, I ran a primary arms micro dot on a multi gun shoot last Saturday. Held zero and worked as well or better than people with much more expensive stuff. I own two of primary arms red dots and am very pleased at my personal results.

I run a MD-06L on my Ruger 22/45 and am 100% happy with it. I initially ran a Bushnell TRS before moving it to an AR that I sold. The PA has a crisper dot and clearer glass plus the left side knob is very convenient. When deciding on another to buy I figured they were both Chinese made and had the same one year warranty but, I liked the left side knob and $20 savings over the TRS. Definitely the right choice.

Tactical_Sandwich - welcome to Calguns, and thanks for making that review. I think it was a good process you put together and documenting it with pics and vids was crucial, very helpful... and contributes to a healthy marketplace that's evolving fast with new ALTERNATIVES and CHOICES.
