IIRC, the 517 is a 512 with a few "upgrades"....

it raises the centerline (like the 553) for a lower cowitness, has a notch cut up for the handguard so it can be mounted further forward, is more water-proof, and moves the controls to the side, so they can be operated with a magnifier in place.

Otherwise, the reticle and operation are the same.

Thanks uclaplinker. Just wanted to make sure that this was not a fake. I am still up in the air with what I am going to run. Eotech 517 or the Aimpiont ML3. Leaning towards the Eotech for the cost reason. Thanks again.

I've seen ML2's with good mounts (LaRue) go for $350 on here.

Also, watch Live.com for the 25% off (it's 15% now) eBay buy it nows. That will help.

Could it be you mean the 557 model? Do you have a link?

doesn't appear to have NV, so it's not a 557... it's also not a 516, since it uses AAs

Botach has a lot of "vaporware" that's not in stock.

516 and 517 also have the thicker frames that protect the lense. It will look a little bulkier, but should hold up to impacts a little more. I have the 516 and highly recommend it. I assume the 517 would be similar, but uses the AA batteries so it will be a bit longer as well.

Their brochure doesn't have the 517 yet (not that I've seen, anyway). Their website and catalog are often lagging the actual products.

It appears to be the new gen design in AA, as others have said - the non-NV version of the 557. The CR123s in the 516 give a little more battery life and a shorter profile, but the tradeoff is lesser battery availability.

Previously, the 55X had better waterproofing than the 51X as well (33' vs 10' spec), but the new gen bodies with the side buttons appear to have the same waterproofing spec (33 feet) in both lines.
