    Need help picking a scope

Hey guys. I'm looking to get a scope for my rem 700 .308. I'm planning on shooting 300-500 yards. My budget is not super high and just wanted some ideas. I don't want to spend a ton. Just not sure on the better options. New to scopes and long range shooting

    Thanks

What's your budget and use of the rifle? Plan on hunting with it , or range only.

      Need help picking a scope

Range. But honestly just fun. No competition. I've read MIL. MOA FFP illuminated reticle etc. All sounds great but i don't NEED a night force or Leupold. Thanks for help
Budget. Like to stay around 300-400. But pleas educate me on what to stay away from. Seen a lot of knockoffs that claim they so what a 1000 piece of glass will

Check out SWFA SS 10x , Primary Arms 4-14, Bushnell elite 10x . That's a start and some other calgunner's will chime in soon. I own the SWFA and have it on my 700 5r.

What is a good power? Variable. Fixed?

Where our located? Maybe someone could hook up with you and show you what they use. Understanding MOA and Mil will help a ton also.

I'm in south OC as well. Just get a Super Sniper at the fixed 16X. Get the Mil reticle and turrets it's the nicer Reticle. It should set you back, with shipping 330 bucks and it works great.

If you want first focal you will be paying more then you need. Second focal is fine it just means the reticle has to be set at a certain power for the subtension lines to work for figuring out unknown distances by using the scopes lines in the reticle to measure stuff. That's the simplest way to describe it.

Google Mil and MOA to figure out what you want out of those... Mil is more straight forward. MOA equals 1.047 inches... so the .047 can throw people off at distances.

Google Parallax. .. it will teach more then I care to write.

Then Google fixed or variable... it all depends on your budget.

Thank you for the great advice. I will look into those? The scope you mentioned does it have any of those features?

I went with a Primary Arms 4-14 FFP, works great on my Savage FCP 10 5-R, 308, got me to 1000 yards at the Sac Valley Long Range Clinic. Not the best scope out there, but for the money, a great choice. Good starter scope.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting

I just got this for my 308 SPS tactical.

I would have preferred the 10x, but it's out of stock for a couple months.
A fixed power gives you better quality at a lower price, generally.
I'll eventually save up and get a similar scope, but in 3-9x for versatility.
SWFA makes great products at great prices.
