I really really wanted to like the VCOG. It was amazing in every other way. The reticle was bright. It was built like a tank. The adjustment knob was so smooth. The only thing I can think of is that maybe my units (#502/#519) were early models and had bugs. I know the segmented circle is not as popular as the horseshoe dot. I don't know.

Sorry it's been a minute since I looked at this thread. I got hands-on with one and think it's a POS and have no interest. I'd get a Z6i or a K16i instead. Even the Razor is a better optic. The VCOG was just pure junk. Very blurry. You focus it on 1X and then turn it to 6X and it gives you a headache with how blurry things get. Focused it on 6X and then on 1X it was a headache. Tried multiple optics. Had other people with me who tried them. The design is just flawed and annoys the hell out of me. My cheap Tasco on the .22 rifle doesn't even have these issues.
That was my experience too. I know FFP scopes are more prone to these types of issues. If I were you, I would try to get my hands on one in person. Focus the diopter for 6X exactly like the manual says and then look at the image and reticle on the other powers. If you order one on line, get an agreement to be able to return it without a restocking fee. I hope they fix it.
I am going to stick with my ACOGs for now. Maybe I will try again when they release a "gen 2" version.
