Budget? Price always tells quality. I recommend you stick to Aimpoint / EOTech. Buy once, cry once.

    Aimpoint H-1

Very nice, compact RDS. H-1 is slightly cheaper and almost the same thing as T-1, except it's slightly less submersible and is not compatible with Night Vision Devices (which most people don't need).

Expensive for a red dot, but worth it.

Other budget / economic RDS : Vortex StrikeFire, Primary Arms RDS.

You might want to look at the Burris AR-332........about $300.00 on amazon.

For a red dot that resembles the old Timex commercials (takes a licking & keeps on ticking!) I'd go with Aim Point.

If you are wanting super fast target acquisition, then I'd go with the Eo-Tech. But if you have a stigmatism, I'd avoid the Eo-Tech. That is unless you can accept the fact the the hollow graph will not be crystal clear. In other words... It will look blotchy. And the only way I've found to correct that is by using a magnifier.

And your third option. If the previously mentioned are out of your price range, then their is the Vortex Strikefire & Sparc. They are very rugged, but the quality of the lenses (personal opinion) are not as nice as the Aim Points.

I hope this helps you and happy shooting.

I absolutely love the Vortex StrikeFire. I purchased mine and the 3X magnifier from Mike Cecil at CS Tactical (http://www.cstactical.com/). It's held up to years of hard use. It's a lot less expensive than an Aimpoint (only $169.99). Does it have the battery life of an Aimpoint? No. But, it's built well, it's bright during the day, it has digital controls, it will use any mount designed for an Aimpoint, and it even has a night vision mode. For a rugged red dot for an AR15, if you're on a budget...then this is just the ticket!

Good post. I like mine as well and I would recommend it to anyone on a budget.
EDIT: They also come with a couple different height mounts. One is an absolute co-witness and one is a lower 1/3. Make sure you know which one you want and which one you will be getting when you purchase.

in my experience, use these if the following is your priority:

                      durability - any aimpoint

                      size/weight - aimpoint micro

                      reticle - eotech

                      budget - primary arms micro

Thanks for the review. I always wondered if they would hold up in the long run and it sounds like yours is. PSA recently had them on a sale for 99 bucks but they sold out in hours. Now it's 119.

Here's my take on the red dots I am currently running:

Aimpoint Comp M4s - Nice sight, expensive, 1x magnification, great battery life, clean optic and dot.

Lucid HD7 - Great Value, kinda heavy, I have a 2x magnifier, 4 reticles, maintains zero, good mount. Without the 2x you see the diode housing through the sight.

Vortex SPARC - Good value, best warranty, comes with 2x magnifier but I don't use it as it seems to reduce the exit pupil to the size of a dime (not sure if that's the best way to describe it) good sight at 1x, light weight.

Leupold DeltaPoint 3.5 - Some may argue that this doesn't belong on the list, but I placed it on my Scar 17 to test it's durability and it held up well! It is very light has a great dot, doesn't obscure your target at all and is really easy to get on target. I'm not going to leave it on the Scar but it will probably end up on my light weight AR build or my Tavor. At the moment this one is the fastest by far for rapid target engagement. Downside is it has to be removed to change batteries (still holds zero) but a knock nonetheless. They are making a Deltapoint 2 which has resolved this issue, but it doesn't look as clean to me.

                            Good Luck!
