I am currently running a Leupold vx 2 duplex on my 16inch M&P 15t. Is this optic a good choice for my rifle or would I benefit more from a red dot or maybe something else? Just curious because sometimes I wonder if the scope is too big for my rifle. Would love some feedback! Thanks

Depends on what type of shooting enjoy. That's a great scope for 100 yard plinking or paper target work.
Red dot's are great for close in tactical stuff like 3-gun or run and shoot contests.
You will have one of the most accurate AR's on the range due to that scope. -
Exactly what Dave said it all depends on the type of shooting your doing. The setup you currently have would definitely be for longer range shooting which I enjoy. Not something for quick up close shooting if that's what your looking to do. If so a red dot would be more of a fitting choice. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"Comment

Leupold 3X9X40 only a 100yard scope??
I should have known I could not make all those 300-600yard shots with all the rifles I have done so with in the past.
Maybe I should take the one off my AR and my 264 I built for long rande PD and pronghorn hunting this year.
What do you think I should install--- Maybe a BSA 20-80X60 with 50 lines/circles in a lit reticle and knobs requiring 27 adjustments before I can shoot. Do not forget the flip-up scope caps.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I was more concerned with the barrel length of the AR possibly not reaching those distances. I will look into this 1:00/offset red dot. If I could run both that would be great!!! And I am interested in trying out a 3 gunComment

Any chance you could weigh in on this post as well? Apparently 3-9 scopes are ".22 scopes". Looks like he could use some advice on this.
