Another "What optic should I buy" Thread

Looking for a variable power scope for a Tikka t3 lite in .308. Going to be used as a hunting/shtf/target rifle. These are the scopes I have been looking at. Just not sure which would have the best glass. I do like the fact that the Bushnell starts at 2.5x.

    - Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42
    - Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50
    - Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x

I am open to other suggestions but selected these because I get a LE discount. They won't end up costing me over $500. Would like to stick around that price. Thanks!

Since you include hunting there is really only one choice Leupold.
PS "I" would get the 3.5X10X40 with a duplex reticle sighted in 2.75" high at 100 yards using 150-165 gr bullets(Nosler PAR or Swift) and a Claw sling. I have 2 Tikka's and really like them.
Be sure to get a spare mag or two even though they are not cheap.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Have you looked at the Primary Arms 4-14x,

      or even the 1-6x

You're better of with a $400 .308 unless you plan on taking out taliban from 2000 yards away haha

Thanks for the input so far. Trying to decide if I should spend a few more dollars and get a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x40mm Target Mark 4 3.5-10x40 but its an additional $200. Not sure what the difference in glass quality is between the Bushnell 6500 and Mark 4.

Considering the number of reputable manufactures making quality scopes on the market today, I think its safe to say that statement is false and extremely biased.

Leaning towards the Bushnell 6500 at this point becuase of the price I can get it at and I like that it goes down to 2.5x. Just not sure on what reticle. Either Mil or the DOA 600

You will hate a mildot when out hunting!

You should look through a 3-9x55 scope with a plex or german #4 reticle.

If deer hunting or elk hunting the Leopold plex is just about perfect.

Yes you can range find with a plex reticle. Easier with a German #4.

A lot of hunters hate bdc reticles.

The BDC is nice at the range but slow and cluttery in the field.

So I guess my question comes down to which type of reticle is best for target shooting and the not as often hunting? Mil seems to be the most popular these days.

A lot of people love the nikon and their smart phone app for target shooting.

The Burris Fufield BDC seems to be the less cluttering of field of view bdc on the market.
