Recommendations for scope!!!

Hey guys I'm in the market for a scope for my remington sps 700! 308

I'm hoping I can a great scope for under $500

I will be using it for mostly long range target shooting (100-800 yards) and a little hunting?

Any recommendation?

Spend more money and get the most out of your rifle.
Bushnell tactical are supposed to be really nice, I just got a sightron big sky 4-16x42mm for under $500.
Theres tons of scopes from good, ok to bad. It takes a lot of research to figure out what features you want, and what price range.

obviously it doesn't have zoom range but the glass is great for the price and they track perfect. the warranty is top notch. it has enough features to do what you want and with 10 mil in the milquad reticle you can shoot to 1000y in the reticle with a 308 depending on the barrel length. you get a $6-700 scope that is much cheaper because its fixed power

If you will use it for hunting big game anything bigger than a 4-5x minimum power will make it tough to use in any cover whatsoever. A 12x or 16x for big game will not work.

Double thumbs up. Check out swfa.com's sample list for refurbed Ziess Conquest Scopes. Shocking good Euro glass assembled in the US.

You cannot tell the refurbs from brand new. 3-9x40mm is good they also have 6.5-20x50mm for $599-$680 depending upon the reticle.

Anthracis's recommended rapid Z reticle is great. Ziess has a brilliant reticle idea here. It's a 2nd focal plane reticle (reticle does not change size with scope zoom). On Ziess's website enter the bullet specifics asked for and a mag range for your scope is suggested. This is a very very close alignment to actual bullet drop for range estimations.

If you can fork out just 60 more dollars, you'll be hard pressed to find a much better scope than this for the price.

Then there is always the Falcon Menace. Highly regarded by many, highly mocked by many as it is a great scope, good glass (although people who have never looked through one knock it for some reason) and it is a pretty good performer. Tracks true, and you can get a FFP, MOA/MOA or Mil/Mil for under 500.

buy once, cry once. don't try and get a scope based on what you have right now, if you can wait in buying a new scope you would be better saving up for a better piece of glass.
if you can double your current amount of money nighforce just released a 1k dollar scope that might suite you well.

Ps thoughts on Redfields Optics? I see that there made in the U.S
