Need information scope.......

I recently purchase a rifle that had never been fired. Mounted on the rifle was the following scope:

Simmons
Whitetail Classic
Model WTC13 3.5-10x40mm WA
Black Granite Finish
Multi Coated Lenses
Water Proof
Shock Proof
For Proof

I have the origional box and papers. I found some information online. It was made by the origional Simmons company before the company was sold several times over. The scope got really good reviews, but that's about all I know about it. I believe it was made in the Phillipines. Very clear. Appears comparible (in my opinion to a Nikon Buckmaster).

Anyone have more info on this scope? Right now it's on an unfired Browning and has been since the rifle/scope were purchased around 1992-1993.

If you have the box and papers for the scope it would appear you probably know more about that 20+ year old scope than any of us here. Did you really need to bump 6 posts up?

Youngin's nowadays. Many of us here were shooting then and I'm sure someone here can help you. Anyway, all I know is that I have a +27 year old Simmons 6.5-20x scope on a smallbore silhouette rifle I built up. AFAIK, it still works fine for what it is. What information are you looking for?

Mostly I have Leupold's and Vortex scopes on my rifles. I've never owned a Simmons scope and like many, believed it to be an entry level scope. I've not seen a scope with a black granite finish. Very attractive scope in that finish. It is also quite bright. I found some information earlier today that indicated that this specific model sold new in 1994 for $189 and another sight at $179. For a 20 year old scope it seems comparable price wise to entry level Leupolds (20 years ago).

I'm trying to determine if I should leave it on the rifle (BLR .270), shoot it and see how it performs or, do I just replace it with a newer model in Leupold, Vortex or possibly Nikon?

I've owned one WTC (not that old) and I'd put it at about 2-stars on the Chuck Hawks scale. If it were me I'd replace it with better scope, at least a 3-star if not a 4. If you're on a tight budget Natchez has a Weaver V-9 for less than $130, and a Grand Slam for $230.

Lots of what we now think of as low end scope brands were pretty good brands 25-30 years ago, companies like Simmons and Tasco come to mind. Of course lenses and lens coatings have improved a lot since then.
