when it comes to shooting long range

I was able to play with my scope today .. I put my targets at 300 , 400 , 480 , 550 , 630 , 700 yards and I was writing down the drops .

do you guys memorize the drops ? or carry like a note pads with all the infos ?

I thought about taping it somewhere on my rifle .. just wanted to know how u guys roll

what other information are good to have with you when practicing long range .. it was really gusty today too .. do you guy use wind metering device ?

Just getting into precision shooting myself so Ive been reading up on this type of thing. Most people have a dope card which has everything. You can use your smart phone too. Ideally you should memorize your drops.

Some guys tape it to the inside of their rear scope cover. Flip it up, there it is.

I created this reticle for the reasons you just mentioned. The BDC will get you center mass hits out to 1000 but it also allows you to dial in and use the chevron.

Phones run put of batteries etc. no way to remember your drops, that's just silly. After you verify your dope (for various rounds) creating dope cards is the only way.

From there you can run cards on the stock or on your mags. Scope caps are fine for only limited info.. I can send pics of both if that helps

Something as simple as a notepad will work to record your data. Memorizing all the drops is fine if you shoot at the same altitude, temp, and humidity all the time. Most don't so you need some way to record the information.

A wind meter is great as it measures not only wind but other atmospheric conditions that can change bullet impact. Any of the Kestrels that have a density altitude measurement will work fine.

A note pad, LRF, simple calculator a kestrel or the like to get AD wind gets glassed at various points-- but I still have a dope card that has been vetted a know AD.

Dimitri .. Im planning to pick up that scope for rem 700 .223 for sure . but I already picked up vortex for 308 and will stick with this one .

Dope card/data book is the only sure way to always have your collected numbers, but ballistics apps are a lot of fun when you have a way to keep your phone charged.

I use the android app.. Strelok.

Strelok and Shooter are great apps for Andriod phones. Once you verify at the range that the dope from these programs is correct, you can modify the atmospheric inputs to make range cards for various altitudes or temps. I always like to have a hard copy on hand of my rifles dope for a given climate. As nice as technology is, the environments we find ourselves in for long distance shooting often dont mingle well with delicate electronics.

Record your dope in your data book - taking care to also record your elevation, load and atmospheric conditions (yes a change in elevation, temperature, humidity etc with effect your dope). You can make dope cards for your most common shooting areas.

Let me know if you need help. I listed some ballistic data. Get your load choro graphed and ill give you all the data you will ever need with variations in altitude and temp.
