ATACR Nightforce mounted on a FN SCAR 16. You guys think its overkill for a .556? This thing is massive, i can't even screw on the sun shade unless i remove the front Iron sights. The scope is capable of 1000+ yards but no luck on hitting that far with a 556. Farthest i can go pretty consistently is 500+ yards, its probably my bullet grain being too light.

Oh I don't know. I've got a CZ 17hmr with a Nikon Monarch 6.5x20. I like to look deep into the squirrels eye before I pull the trigger.Comment

It isn't overkill for your .223 BBs, but the SCAR 16 is a light gun, and it seems that a scope of that size would not be optimal since you'd eliminate the advantage of it's weight and throw the ergonomics out of whack. If your shooting is limited to having your rifle anchored to a bench, then I see no issue.Comment

You Right, this is a better setup.
I'll just slap the AtacR on my AR-10.Attached FilesComment

Which one did you pay more for the rifle or the scope? I would drop a Leupold tactical 1-4x on a rifle like that and buy a 338 Lapua Magnum bolt gun to put that scope on. I can hear the conversation already "Well honey I bought too powerful of a scope for this rifle so I got the right scope for this rifle and then needed to get the right rifle for this scope." Perfect reasoning for purchasing a new $1000 scope and $7000 rifle Everyone chime in if they agree!Comment
