Leupold Mark IV adjusting to new zero, help

So, I was playing around with my Leupold scope and read the instructions on adjusting the dials and putting in a new zero, it got me thinking and then confused. My questions is, when adjusting for zero, it says to loosen the set screws and and turn knob to align zero by hand and tighten screws. Is it as simple as it sounds, am I trying to over think it?

For a while I was thinking that I loosen the set screw, fire and adjust accordingly and when it is zeroed then tighten the set screw.

I then came to my senses (I think ) and I'm thinking that it means to fire, adjust accordingly and then loosen set screws, adjust to put back into zero and tighten. Am I right?

Also during my exuberant and delightful fiddling around with my new scope the cap came off, should I be worried about that? Did I just fud it up?

    Yes
sigpicIf you loan someone twenty dollars and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Should I worry that the cap came off at all?
