    Q&A: 4moa RDS hold over

    Using Nikon spot-on app:
    My .223 55grn bthp trajectory:
    Yards vs inches
    100 0+/-
    200 -3.06
    300 -12.76
    400 -31.50

    using my vortex strikfire w/ 4moa RD. size of dot:
    100 4in
    200 8in
    300 16in
    400 32in

    Is above correct?
    ^^^My google fu results...

    Assumption based on numbers above: Poi=poa@100
    Roughly bottom of dot for 2, 3, & 400 generally speaking.
    Now I'm only trying to hit paper for man size silhouette's at those ranges. Shooting Prone

    Going to Barstow BLM this weekend and wanted to have some fun shooting at a distance. Are my numbers correct? Thanks for the help...

      Oh ok thanks. I see where I fudged that up. That's even better from a hold over standpoint...
      400yrds is probably gonna be a pipe dream.

        Nah, it just takes practice like anything else. A human-size target from that distance is actually a snap. What you need is a steel target so you get that instant feedback. You learn a lot faster that way.

        Important thing is to get your zero nice and tight. If you're shooting a red dot, I'd just start with a 50 yard zero. it will really simplify things.

          Nikon Spot On

          SB, A very important piece of data that you need to make sure is entered correctly is scope height. That is measured mid bore of barrel to the middle of your scope. Most AR's with a rail are 2.5 inches. You can change this number in spot on under customize loads. You can also add atmospheric condition's which affect bullet as well.

            Lol my Nikon prostaff sits on my marlin 336. And that's where the spot-on comes into play. I was playing with it the other day and wanted to apply it to my op. I've been planing on getting the p223 soon for my second build. And I know exactly what your talking about. I really am partial to it. I like the idea of just plug and play. Most people say its cheating. Some people don't like the bdc's. But that's another topic.
