    LWRC & Vortex Viper

pairing the LWRC R.E.P.R 16' model with a vortex Viper PST FFP 6-20x50
looking for opinions on the scope mount i should choose. so far i have this...

the purpose of this gun is as long range as the family can go, which is the smarter mount choice? or is there another one i have overlooked?
    Thanks for any advice!

I have this mount on my precision 308... and I absolutely love it.

Returns to absolute zero each time. I've removed the scope several times, and never had my zero move. Returns magically back to the same position. Best $210 I spent on the rifle.

Looking at another photo of it, mine might be the one that is forward a little bit.

Only criticism I'd have on that LWRC is, you're getting only a 16 inch barrel on a long range precision rifle. If you can manage it, I would personally go with the 20", especially with that huge scope. Maximize your potential out of that rifle. Break it in right..
You're putting gold wheels on it with the scope and mount. You'll likely be shooting from a fixed position most of the time anyways.
If you want a 16" battle rifle later.. build yourself another upper for that purpose.
Just my personal input. Looks like it'll be a great setup no matter what you do though.

At the time of purchase, finding a 20' wasn't happening. So I got the 16'. If i could do it again i'd get the 20'! haha
Thanks for the input I will do some research on the Bobro mount.

Why not put a scope on their worthy of the REPR price tag?

The Vortex has all the features I was hoping for at much less of a cost than a Night Force or something similar. I think it will be fine.

Ughh I guess so....you will be doing a disservice to that $3500 AR though.

What scope do you recommend and why?

I think you mean a Vortex 6-24x50... they don't make a 6-20x in their PST line...

... and depends on what you want to spend...

If you want to keep it under 1k, then the Vortex PST is a good choice but its still an entry level scope in the area of high(er) end scopes. I have a couple of them too, great value, but its far from what I would consider top of the line, but you can also do a lot worse. Considering your choice of rifle, I would look for something a little more fitting.

To the 6-24x50... its a big scope... the 16" LWRC is pretty mobile and why not keep that in the selection criteria when selecting a scope... you can find something more like a 2.5-10x from Vortex or NF... or a 3.2-17x USO with a 44mm objective if you wanted something higher end with some magnification.

If you still want to stick with a 50mm objective on that rifle.. consider the SWFA 5-20 posted above. Optically its a much better scope than the Vortex. I can resolve much more detail across the magnification range over the Vortex... then again it also cost more too.

                    Bobro makes some outstanding mounts.

The SWFA 5-20x50 scope is 2x the price of the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50, and about 1.5x the price of the Viper PST 6-24x50. Is the SWFA worth that much more? I am still happy with my Viper PST.

In short... yes, but it depends on what you personally value in your optics...

If you just want good tracking then even the fixed power $300 swfa non HD scopes bring that to the table for a budget price. So does Vortex in their PST line, and many other brands on the market offer reliable tracking.

If you want a certain level of optical performance from a scope like what is found in the SWFA HD scopes, you will find them to be a bargain since you can easily compare them to scopes in the $2000 price range like the Vortex Razor.

I own a 4-16x PST, 6-24x PST, 5-20x SWFA, and its not even a comparison in the optical performance department. The 4-16x being the worst out of the bunch... actually somewhat disappointing to be honest. 6-24x being much better but still a noteworthy gap in optical performance between the SWFA.

Biggest obvious difference is simply resolution and brightness. In less than ideal lighting conditions its a pretty obvious difference as the PST reticle gets much darker at higher magnifications.

So for me... it was worth the price considering I would have to spend a lot more from other brands including Vortex to get the same/similar level of performance.

                          Check out this Vortex scope:

I just got this last week and dialed it in on Sunday. I'm running it on my 16" PTAC AR-15 and couldn't be happier. I had a 1-6x24 mounted but needed a little more power (eyes are starting to go) and this fit in perfectly. I thought about getting another Vortex PST 4-16x50 but figured it was too much. Glass is just like the Vortex pst 6-24x50 ffp. You can keep both eyes open with a clear sight picture on the lowest setting. Easy to aquire targets and no problem seeing shots on steel 300yds. I own several Vortex scopes and have always been pleased. Not your $2k scope quality but close. Obviously my PTAC fun gun is not in the same class as your LWRC but I wouldn't hesitate to mount it on my hi-end custom build AR's

Yes you are right i did mean the 6-24x50
Price was definitely a factor when researching the scopes, I do lack the experience of a SWFA SS scope which could change everything if I did know.
I purchased the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP Riflescope with EBR-1 MRAD Reticle from optics planet in November for around $860. making it hard to jump up to the $1,500 SWFA scope. All the information is much appreciated though.

I would like to get a lower power Vortex in the future, that is if i ever get to experience the one I ordered in November. shipping estimate seems to get further and further away everytime I check.
