    SWFA & Viper PST

+1 on everything he just said. I have the same two scopes and while I was presently surprised at the PST 6-24 FFP, the SWFA 5-20HD has better glass. Resolution is simply better.

I also agree about the knobs. If I could switch the knobs and their feel between the two, I'd be a happy camper. The PST knobs just simply feel better and I prefer the design over the SWFA ones.

Inmate Gunfighter420 sells the Vortex ViperFFP 6-24 PST for something like $775, which is a smoking deal. You can find his threads in the commercial sales area, or just look him up. The SWFA costs about twice that, but you can sometimes find them lightly used for $1000 or $1200. Hard to go wrong with the SWFA lineup.

I would recommend steel rings but they're costly. Badger, Nightforce, GG&G, Trijicon all make great rings with the Trijicon being the least expensive. If you're not wanting to spend that kind of coin, Burris XTR xtreme rings are good too.

Weaver tactical 5-15x15 EDMR (illuminated and FFP)

To those asking for documentation about the PST 4-16x50, all you have do do is use one in comparison (or trust the many of us that have... Lots have reported the same thing)...

Anyone know if any local socal shops stock Badger rings? Also, which base to get? I see 20moa being very popular. Do you think a 50mm objective will fit with medium height rings?

Medium Badger rings will work. Here's a pic of the Vortex 6-24x50 with med. high Badger rings and a Nightforce 20moa rail on my Savage.

Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 EMDR FFP Mil/Mil. Nobody talks about them because they don't have a cool name like Vortex or Super Sniper, but they are probably the best bang for the buck under a grand.

I have a Vortex 2.5-10x32 FFP, by the way, and would probably choose the weaver 2-10x36 if I HAD to have the ultra clear glass. The Vortex are nice, but they aren't as clear as the Weaver Tactical. The Vortex Warranty, however, is unbeatable.

Oh, rings and base. Nightforce steel base, Vortex matched rings.

So what am I getting from a base that cost $150 vs one that $50. Same with rings? Am I missing something here or is my lack of experience taking over?

Precision and durability. The Nightforce steel base is something that will last a lifetime, whereas an aluminum base will likely shear eventually with heavy recoil. The Vortex rings I suggested are just super heavy duty and are made by Seekins, so you are getting a hell of a product that will be rugged and ultra precise. Those two are a great combo. It's what I have on my 300WM.

Yes, the Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24 or the 3.5-21 with G2 reticle.

I bought the Weaver 3-15x50 EMDR from OP using 10% off so it was $630 shipped. Seemed like a good deal but I'm not too impressed with it. Compared to my PST 2.5-10x32, the Weaver has noticeable chromatic aberration, worse illumination and a slight fish-eye effect. Don't care for the locking turrets either.
