    Another scope suggestion thread

Hey guys, I'm new to the AR platform and don't have a clue when it comes to optics but i'm learning fast.

I have a Weaver Classic 1-3x with a SWFA S.S.A.L.T. mount on top of a JP-15 with a 16" barrel and want to upgrade.

I'm looking for more power to shoot paper/steel from 100-500yds. I want something simple, illuminated & decent quality. I had a opportunity last week to try out a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x but at $7-800 its a bit outta my price range.

What would you guys suggest in the $250-$500 range and is their any stores in the Sacramento or Bay Area that has a good selection on hand.

    Thanks

If you want an honest suggestion, you own a JP. You obviously know quality. Why would you want to buy a scope that makes your JP into a POS?

In a scoped rifle that is intended for precision, the single most important component of that rifle is the scope.

Having said that, for a touch over $500 the best 3-9x is probably the SWFA 3-9x42mm. I felt it was easily the equal in glass and tracking of my Nightforce compact.

You very rarely hear complaints or regrets from folks who buy quality glass...buy a scope that rifle deserves and make sure the turret increments match the reticle, ex.: MIL/MIL or MRAD/MRAD.

Laws against murder and attempted murder should have been the only gun control laws ever needed in America...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I took it back out to the range today and got it pretty close, with a little more time I should be able to get it where I want it.

So I've decided to wait on the upgrade. Heres a pic of one of my groups, I'm not a great shot but my buddy had a super tight 5rd group. We are also shooting cheap ammo, match ammo cost to much right now.

I normally wouldnt call you out, but if you're going to make scope suggestions you should know that mil & mrad ARE THE SAME THING! They are both short for milliradian. The 2 most common scope measurement "systems" are MOA (minute of angle) or MIL/MRAD, (milliradian).

The principle you were trying to convey is correct, you should have a matching reticle to your turret adjustments because its easier to use.
