Reviews?? Bushnell red dot

I purchased 3 of them during the Black Friday sales - 1 came screwed up (dot was a line).
Seems that my experinece with red dots is you get what you paid for. You'd think that a $100 red dot would be decent - but I have a feeling that $100 is bottom of the barrel (so tru glow et al that are sub $50 must be plain trash).
The two that I have that work do fine - the dot is a little big - but other than that I'm ok with them. I am only doing casual target shooting with them and they are on two of my run of the mill AR's.
I might move one to my 44mag - although I shoot nothing but low power subsonic hand loads through it - every red dot I've ever put on that gun and shot regular factory loads with, ends up breaking. The TRS-25 seems to be a little better, and I did see that Bushnell says they can be instaled on a 12 gLast edited by bill_k_lopez; 01-08-2014, 3:20 PM. -
I've heard good things about the TR-25 but never had the chance to play with one. My favorite bargain red dot is still the Primary Arms Micro.Comment

That pretty much sums up the PA micro.Comment

The TRS-25 is still working great for me. So far I've only used it on a .22lr and 7.62x39mm rifle. It held it's zero just fine. A great budget red dot.
I plan to mount it onto an AR15 next.
I've heard plenty of good things about the PA micro too. It seems like either one will work out fine.Comment

Want a review? This guy lives just north of you.
I have been talking about these red Dot sights a lot on different threads for a while now. I got my first one about 2 years ago and mounted it on my Kel Tec SU16CA .223 carbine. It has performed flawlessly so far, and by so far, I mean about 1200 rounds and two Front Sight Rifle Classes, as well as numerous local 3 gun shoots, with no shift in zero. Liked the optic so well I bought another one for my AR 15 when I outfitted it earlier this year. Once again, flawless operation. So I
Oh, mine's on a 460 S&W pistol. only a few dozen rounds so far, but already doing much much better than the ultradot I had, and "makes" me more accurate at 100 yards. (I know, I know I shouldn't say it 'makes me' more accurate, just saying it for brevity)Last edited by Whiterabbit; 01-08-2014, 4:10 PM.Comment

Have one on an AR Pistol in 223/556. It works great and the red dot is not "too large" it's like a 2MOA dot, perfect size for the price.Comment

The TRS-25 works well on my AR. I bought one thinking that it will eventually end up on the .22LR, but it works so well it stays where it is."Now why doesn't somebody take out a .45 and BANG... settle it?" - Mr. LeeComment

Had both - liked the PA better, the red dot was better defined and glass clearer.
Saw this from our Calguns Deals/Promos topic forum, scroll down to the cheap Chinese red dot > http://www.bushmaster.com/products.asp?cat=26Comment

I love my TRS-25. It's great bang for the buck. From what I can tell, for more money (and typically that's a lot more money), you get a smaller dot (the TRS-25's 3 MOA is too big for long-range precision shooting) or a better battery system or something like that. For me, the TRS-25 does what I want it to do. I'm not saying there aren't other good choices out there at roughly the same price point, but the club isn't very big.Comment

The dot on mine resembles a star, especially on high / in low light.
I know I don't have an astigmatism because I've used a few Aimpoints and the dots were crisp and circular, even on high.
The mounting screw has a somewhat shallow 'low profile' head, which would be easier to strip than a standard profile head.
If you do get a defective sight they charge $10 for return shipping.
It's also made in China, so you're basically supporting slave labor.
Personally I'm going save up for an Aimpoint or something not made in China, this was a gift which I'll probably leave on my .22.Comment

screws do not strip when you use the proper driver for them. There is a reason there are "gunsmith screwdriver" sets. With respect to the good ones, it's not like they took Irwin sets from Agent Orange and just repackaged them...Comment

I have a Bushnell TRS 25 and a Vortex Sparc among other red dots.
As far as the TRS goes it is kind of a let down. I use it on my AR and it holds zero, but it has this funky blue tint that is more than any sight I have and it almost feels as if my sight has shades on. In low light this is a compromise in my opinion. For another 50 bucks you can get a Sparc and it is much better.
And for only 25 bucks more than the Bushnell TRS you can get into a Vortex Strikefire which is feel is worlds better. It is bigger, but if you don't mind a standard sized red dot you will get much better light uptake; I have an Aimpoint ML2 and the Strikefire is just as good in my opinion.
So, YMMVV, but that is my experience with these.
Better yet, look at primary arms discontinued 1-4x scope. It will be much better as far as versatility and clarity.sigpic
