    Need Rings/Mounts for new scope

    Hello all,

I am looking for some recommendations on rings and mount for my new Leupold VX-2 3-9X40 Standard reticle. This will go on my Remington 700 ADL .308 for a hunting rig. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks

I have a brand new pair of Burris XTR 30mm low (1/4")... they are a bit too low for the 50mm obj scope I have, but will work well for your 40mm... will sell for $40 + shipping if interested.

ETA: I think your scope is 1" though?...

          yes...

they make 1" too - decent price... also TPS are really good rings, cost more than the Burris though.

You bought a great brand of scope "Leupold" Y not get Leupold rings and mount ?? The Leupold web site has a great interactive parts finder to make sure you get the right mount and rings for your gun.

For hunting, I would look into rings like these Talley's that will mount directly to your receiver:

If you are planning on mounting a picatinny "base" (not ideal for hunting), like a Badger or TPS, then low Seekins Precision Rings or similar quality like these:

I kinda wish I had considered the Talley's instead of Burris 2-piece rail and Leupold rings...

As much as I think it would be a waste of money, I'm thinking about replacing... it's for a 700 SPS Tactical (308), do you think the Talley direct receiver mount would be a bad idea?... Is there a reason it's better for hunting rifle?

the idea behind the "talley" type is that it is lighter.

On a light weight hunting rifle it makes sense as ounces = pounds and pounds = pain

But on a Rem sps tac stick with what you have

I appreciate this. I have a scope and base with rings already (cheapy scope and everything else that came with the gun) and although it may not seem like a lot of weight, they add more weight than needed. I will go ahead and order these Talley's. Thanks!

The way I think, direct mount rings would be better for hunting due to less weight & minimal profile to help avoid catching on vegetation.

Not saying a base + rings won't work...I just see the other lighter & streamlined configuration having some advantages. I have a TPS base & Seekins/Vortex rings on my SPS Varmint, but I don't hunt.
