    Recommendations Needed AR Scope

I am new to the optics game and have horrible depth perception.

    Questions:

    1. What is a good quality scope with good magnification that will quick release from a Colt AR to an AR platform .22?

    2. Is there an article with a good education of scope terminology, specs etc.?

I would prefer not to spend a ton but would like good input.

    Thanks!

BTW, I would like to be able to be solid at shorter ranges and in excess of 100 yards...FWIW...

Is the sky the limit or do you have a budget?

AKS, price is ALWAYS a factor, but if it is a one time purchase and interchangeable, i am more open-minded....I would love to have options and learn the difference to make an educated choice!

I seriously recommend one scope per rifle. It's difficult to make recommendations without knowing budgets or goals. Off the cuff, not "breaking the bank" possibilities -

            For the 22, a Nikon Prostaff 3-9 x 40
For the AR, EOTech 512 (1x for CQB) or a Burris AR 536 (5x for mid-range)

Agree, one scope per rifle, although if you have mutiple ARs you can move the scope around.

Agreed. Ideally, you would want one optic per rifle. Every time you swap your scope, you will have to re-zero it to the rifle it's mounted to. Now it would be simple if you could just remember each elevation and windage setting for each rifle, but problem is, there will be a couple factors affecting efficiency. The cheaper quick detach mounts have a little play in them and will lose zero even when reattached in the same place in the same rifle. The cheaper scopes may also not retain the exact amount of clicks per MOA everytime, so memorizing settings may be futile. That old saying holds true, "You get what you pay for." LaRue mounts at good at holding a repeatable zero, but they go for around $200 just for a mount.

As for scopes, I'll let you try and Google them yourself. The numbers displayed on a scope refer to it's magnification power and the size of the objective lens. so a 1-4x20mm would mean that you can zoom in from 1x to 4x and see through a 20mm lens. 3x to 6x is enough magnification for mid-range. The size of the lens will effect how much area you see in the scope and how bright the picture will be. The bigger the lens, the more you will see and the brighter the picture will be (more surface area of lens = more light getting through)

Personally, I am saving up for an EoTech with a Flip To Side 3x or 6x magnifier. Here's a link to a vid review of a 6x. Have fun!
