    Nikon Prostaff vs Buckmaster?

What is the difference between the Nikon 3-9x40 Prostaff and the Nilon 3-9x40 Buckmaster?

Aside from some minor dimensional differences, I think the Buckmaster has slightly better coatings for a few more % points in light transmission. The Prostaff is rated @ 90% and I saw a rating on the Buckmaster @ 98-99%.

I have a Prostaff on my main deer/elk hunting rifle. I have Buckmaster and Monarch scopes on other rifles. The big difference between the two from what I notice is the Buckmaster has better edge sharpness. The Prostaff gets a little fuzzy on the outer edges. With that said I've never thought about replacing the Prostaff on my hunting rifle. Its never failed me.

Both scopes are good choices at that price point. I'm impressed by the Nikon line and its affordability.

AKS is correct. The glass coating's make all the difference in clarity and moving from one tier to the next. I use the PROSTAFF 3-9 BDC Reticle on a number of my hunting rifles and couldn't be happier. In fact the PROSTAFF 3-9 on my son and father in law's deer rifle's 2 years ago and between the 2 of them they are 12:12 on one stop shots. Hard to argue with that, especially when my 77 year old fater in law used to average one deer per box of bullets! If you get a chance take a look down the tubes of both scopes and buy which ever one you think will work the best for your needs.

Either is a good option, I like the BDC reticle myself, helps for those longer shots you haven't zeroed for. Easy set up with Nikons SpotOn web app.

I own buckmasters (3) and really like them. Have never had a problem. Does the pro staff line have side focus? What about differences in powers offered? I'm trying to think of some possible differences that haven't been stated. I don't know much about prostaffs

                  I have the 4.5-14x40sf, 6-18x40sf, and 4-12x50sf.

PROSTAFF does not have side focus. PROSTAFF's do a great job if you want to save some money. Lot's of upgrades over the last few years to glass coating's,turret's and different magnification option's. I like the 3-9 BDC and using Spot On to really dial it in.
