Primary Arms and Aimpoint Pro Red Dot Brightness

I currently use Primary Arms multi reticles red dot on my AR-pistol , which I like it alot . It holds zero .. affordable .. since its just for fun use .

well , I decided to take it to desert hunting trip today and noticed red dot is not bright enough during sunny day . even with new battery .

right now , I can get aimpoint point from miday for mid 300's with 30 off coupon along with free shipping .

before I make a purchase , I wanted to know if anyone here have experience using both and know the difference between brightness level ? please chim in

    thanks

Wish I had some info for ya.

This section does not seem to get a lot of views, I would reccomemd asking same question in the rifle forum or pistol forum.

Lots of guys there have both optics and will chime in much faster.

I have one of those surplus Aimpoint COmpM2's and it's SUPER bright at it's highest setting. Plenty for daylight shooting on a sunny day.

The difference is HUGE... there is no comparison. The real aimpoint on full setting is bright enough to be bothersome.

I'd say my fakepoint at full setting is like my aimpoint at setting 7 out of 10...

The aimpoint from 9 to 10 is a big jump btw... like the brightness is like 4 times higher in the 10 than the 9.

        Hope this helps.

            I can help here.

I have a Primary Arms red dot on my 15-22. It is a good value for the money and works as advertised. However, the low cost shows itself when you use it in any kind of bright daylight environment. Show me a guy who says it is comparable to an Aimpoint and I'll show you a goof who probably never uses it for anything else than chasing his cat around the apartment with.

We go out shooting in the desert frequently. I do have an Aimpoint Pro and a couple of Eotechs. These devices show their value when you see the ease of picking up targets in bright daylight , not to mention military grade build quality and hold zero under all circumstances.

I like PA and I recommend them, for rimfires or plinking. They are a great value but they aren't in the same ballpark as the more expensive brands. If you want a compromise look at the Vortex red dots. They work great too for a slightly higher price. I just got a Sparc and I love it.

i might have gotten a "mutant" PA micro dot. it's about 80% as bright as my aimpoint micro. just went desert shooting 3 weeks ago. no problems at all, super bright, clear and sunny day, with either the PA or aimpoint. i forget which settings we were using, but we were not using the max on both of the sights.

My PA Micro is the original one... the first gen they made. I can just pick up the red dot in a bright desert environment with a brand new battery.

I think PA Micros have their place and are awesome for the price.

I should add, I own a couple of Aimpoint Micros and have left them on for years now and they're still working perfectly.

They are almost universally praised on Calguns for a reason.

The last time I was out at Rauhauge's I can see my PA micro dot very clearly on 6 or 7 brightness level. I also looked through my friend's Aimpoint T1 and honestly with my crappy eyes I couldn't tell the difference. If you can't pick up the dot in during day time you can try contacting PA.

I have been very rough with our red dots for years and like others mentioned they are amazing for what they are. Aimpoint is a military grade optic and 3.5 times the price so not a fair comparison. I have no problem seeing the PA dots in desert on a bright day. That said both are good to go at their price range! If you are looking to upgrade Aimpoint is a great option and we carry them as well.

I can attest to the PA Red dots being tough. I have a micro on my Remington 870. I shoot slugs out of it more often than not. The kick from slugs out of a short barreled shotgun is painful. Micro still works fine.
