Which Nikon Scope Would You Choose?

Which would you install on your AR 5.56?

    Nikon P-223 3-9x40 -vs- Nikon P-223 3x32

    Which and why?

You're "TheProfessional", why are you asking us? j/k

You need to tell us what you will be using your AR for, before we can make a better recommendation as to which one.

I did a quick search on Nikon and found 15 similar threads. These threads might help you better formulate your question.

How will the optics be used???

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

I put the 3-9x40 on the wifes gun. I am trying to get her to do some long range shooting and on the first day she ever shot her AR she was blowing out the center at 250m with about a 2 inch group. As I said, she is brand new to the AR platform but she'll get better. If you are only going to be shooting around 100m then I would just go with the 3x32. I know I've seen some people complain about opticsplant but I have had the exact opposite experience with them. I order my scope with p-series mounts and spent about $30 less than local stores wanted plus it arrived a day ahead of when it was supposed to. I would definitely do business with them again.

so the short of it ~100m 3x32, long range 3-9x40. Hope this helps

Sub-MOA on day one... How much better do you expect her to get?!

I have used both scopes. My son has confiscated the 3X for his Comp. Carbine, after I whipped him with it on my rifle. That being said, for shooting beyond 200 yards for me it's the P-223 3-9 BDC 600 all day. Great price, clarity and easy to use. Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program let you dial in the BDC reticle to your shooting need. How close can you get, try soda can's at 500 yards. For the P-223 3x scope I used Nikon's 2 piece P-Series Mount because of how compact this scope is. I do like the 1 piece M-223 Series for full sized scopes. I'm just a 1 piece fan when it fit's the situation.

I'm a recently new Nikon scope owner and I am very impressed with the crisp & bright sight pic on my 3-9x40 Prostaff Rimfire. I never imagined a $130 scope could be this sweet.

Thanks AKS ! YOu absolutely get a lot of scope for the price with the Nikon PROSTAFF series. Recently there were many upgrades to this scope and none to the price. A few times a year you can find this scope or similar PROSTAFF/P-223 Scopes on sale. How about posting a pic?

What's the difference between the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 and the Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40?

Some of the Buckmaster Series of scopes have side focus for parallax adjustment. The multicoated glass is different then what is used for the PROSTAFF series as well. All have Nikon's Lifetime Warranty

Sounds like the buckmaster may be a better scope then.

The Buckmaster is defintely a better scope. Better clarity and color transmission. The MONARCH is the next step up from the Buckmnaster Series. Hard to beat the PROSTAFF for a good entry level scope though.
If there's one thing Nikon has been doing for many years is building great glass!
