Decent, low cost 24-32x mil-dot scope?

Any out there worth considering? I'm shooting .22lr at 100, 200 and 300 yds and need something higher power than my 3-9x40. Target shooting only, no hunting.

"Low cost" and "decent" are very subjective terms and often at opposite ends of the spectrum when talking rifle scopes. I would be looking at offerings from Nikon, Bushnell, Vortex, or Burris for "decent" glass at a reasonable price point.

You should also have no problem shooting to 300 with 14x. Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x40 Side Focus Matte BDC would be a good choice - $270 on Amazon. If you need to see POI, get a spotting scope.

I would be avoiding offerings from Barska, NC Star, CVLife, FSI, Leapers, Simmons, etc. While they will work and are low cost, the glass & coatings are typically inferior quality and eye relief/eye box size are usually smaller and frustrating.

The bitterness of poor quality lasts far longer after the sweetness of low price is long forgotten...

I bought this for my .22 trainer I am still building lol. So far it everything looks great about it, just got to take it out shooting. Plan shooting it out to 300yrds with match ammo. FFP 4-14x44, obviously bigger than 32mm though.

Maybe it's because my vision isn't what it used to be, but I definitely want at least a 20x scope. I'm OK up to 100 yds with 9x, but 200 yds is just too far / target is too small. I don't have the funds for an expensive scope.

Whats your budget? That would help narrow down some options.

I can appreciate your vision issues as I have have the same concerns for myself. However, you haven't mentioned a price range and are still using subjective terms like "expensive".

To me and many others, "expensive" conjures names like Leupold, Trijicon, Zeiss, Nightforce, and beyond.

What is your price range or upper limit?

The upper third of the magnification scale on inexpensive scopes is usually very difficult to use due to "tunnel vision" effects. Eye relief shrinks as does the eye box. 1" tubes also limit MOA adjustments to a more narrow range. My experience with cheap scopes are that they're a constant wrestling match trying to never quite get the performance promised in the sales features. Let me add that adjustable objectives versus side focus parallax correction is a big clumsy pain in the backside.

Those are indeed glowing reviews...likely from many who have never used a good quality scope and are simply unaware of the difference.

I firmly urge you to save for something better, but hey, it's your money, your gun and your eyeballs.

I highly suggest either one of these or the T models. Rimfirecentral recommends these as well. I just picked up a V24 for my 10/22.

Ok, I'll look for a Nikon I can afford. Are all the Weaver scopes decent? How about this one:

                  It's only 20x though and not mil-dot.

                    Bingo.

20x+ on a cheap scope is just asking for a headache. Tiny exit pupil combined with crap glass, a 1" tube and you're losing adjustment, dim image, it just makes for a bad experience all around.

I'd suggest that the OP try to get a look through someone's decent 4-14 or so, and then save up. You don't need to spend $1500 to get a scope with glass that can provide a decent image, but you need to stay off of the bottom end.

I have a question for you Stretch2, what is the 3-9x40 you're currently using?

Somthing like this might work for you Strech: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-PROSTAFF...+scope+mil+dot

I own several Nikons, very clear glass for the price.

Where is your location? I could let you see through a few brands of scopes, if your close.
