50/200 works well from my experience. I ran the KAC BUIS when I was in, but nowadays there are plenty of options. Troy is popular.

Right now I have a 50/200 yd zero using a matech buis but I think I need to reevaluate that since the matech is for 25/300. I assume the elevation knob won't work since I zeroed it at 50 and not 25 yds. My aims pint is also zeroed at 50/200. Is kac a 50 yd zero sight?

        Thank a lot guys

I also have Matech sights on my AR's, so I sighted for the 25/300 meters.

I prefer a 50 yard zero because POI is within 2 inches up to 250 yards. At 300 yards, I just aim several inches high to compensate for the drop.

Since my son and I do most of our target practice at Field Time we're using military 25 yard M4 targets, A2 target printed on the flip side. At 25 yards they are supposed to represent a silhouette at 300 yards. It remains to be seen where our bullets are actually dropping back down to line of sight after 25 yard however.

If it is for CQB or Home Defense then use a 25 yard zero so you will not have as drastic a hold over to make up for height over bore when close in. If you use it for long range shots a 50 yard zero will likely be better.

It all boils down to what distance the majority of your shots are going to be at and how you use your rifle.

This thread I found a while back has various graphs of bullet trajectory, and about in the middle is one that graphs m193 (55gr FMJ) with 25m, 50yrd & 100yrd zeros.

It sold me completely on the 50 yard zero, and that is what I prefer. Your holdover from zero to 50 yards is never more than 2.5 inches so, unless you are taking a hostage shot, you are pretty darn close enough for me.

This will give you a good idea on what zero works best for you. At close range height over bore is about 2.5-3" with irons and higher depending on your optic system on an AR-15.
