Yes, low rings should be fine. Keep us posted on your progress.

I have a pair of Burris XTR low (mounted once, but never shot - a little too low for my setup) in original packaging... will sell for $40

Also have Burris XTR QD med that have been used (minor wear - very good condition) also $40

*edit... I just realized you are using Nikon (I think all their M series are 1"?...) these are 30mm rings - I wouldn't suggest inserts, but some people use 'em (in case you're interested).

Thanks for the offer LBDamned. I ended up ordering 1" Burris Rings 1/4in low. I'm waiting for the UPS guy to drop it off... I'll let you all know how the mounting and zeroing goes once I get it...

Did you get Signature Zee or regular Zee? The Sig is the one with the inserts which both protect the scope from ring marks and allow some limited tuning.

Your scope is way too high.

Get the Burris signature rings (Med) and install 10 MOA cams, + in rear, - in front.

              Update:

              Remington 700 SPS Tactical 308
              Nikon M-308 4-16x42 BDC 800
              Burris XTR Rings 1/4" Low
EGW Steel HD 0 MOA Base

Installed new Burris XTR Rings and took her out the the range. Was able to zero with little adjustment from the Nikon's Mechanical Zero at 100yrds. Thanks for the advice fellow Calgunners. Happy Camper now...

Photos attached. Still have to work on my breathing when shooting..

How do you like the scope in general?
I just bought the same scope to mount on a Ruger SR 762

I didn't have the funding to purchase a $1k scope but for what the scopes worth, its not that bad. I like this scope. Crystal clear when shooting down range...

Do you know what load the BDC 800 is calibrated for?
                    Congratulations on your purchase.

Looking good, much better with the low rings. I'm still sorta a noob with my 700 but once you get some trigger time and start getting the hang of breathing and trigger control I'm sure you'll start seeing better groups.

What kind of ammo were you shooting?
Feeding them decent stuff definitely makes a difference . My 700 shoots 5in groups with M80 Mil-surp (granted that was my first 2 times shooting it, haven't tested it again recently), and <1" with handloads.
The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

I believe the BDC is calibrated for 168gr.

308 NATO Winchester 147gr. FMJ - Not the best grouping, but clean rounds.

That's why the mount is elevated and forward set.

Same thing with the M-223 series of scopes.

One of the first things to do while setting up to place an optic on top of your rifle, is to bed your scope base. You may be gaining or losing moa, both is bad for your scope. Search YouTube for the proper way to check and bed your base.

Defiantly mount your scope as low as possible to get proper cheek weld.
